teckaholic 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2009 I have a question for you guys...I am a huge Ducks fan that will be attending The Joe if the Ducks make it to the 2nd round. I am not one of those fans who taunt other fans. Am I going to be violently attack? Sounds stupid but I got attacked because I had a Chargers jersey at a Steelers game. Walking up the stairs and pow. Got in a fight w/ the guy and he got arrested. I just want to take my wife to a great game of hockey. Thanks ahead of time!
Rick 42 Report post Posted April 24, 2009 (edited) you'll be fine. You may hear some drunk a-hole (like the dudes I attend games with) yell something about the ducks, but I seriously doubt anyone would get violent with you for no reason like wearing a ducks jersey. Mike 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2009 I wouldn't be worried. You will probably get some good natured ribbing, but nothing violent will happen unless you start the violence.
Uncle Danny 155 Report post Posted April 24, 2009 As long as it isn't a Pronger jersey, you should be fine. There are violent, drunk douchebags in any arena, but folks at the Joe (in my experience) tend to appreciate someone who loves and understands their hockey more than causing trouble for opposing fans. If you're really afraid, strike up a friendly conversation with someone in a Wings jersey near your seats. Detroit fans, as a whole, know their stuff and love the game more than any logo. Three pieces of advice, though: 1) Don't mention the Ducks beating us in the playoffs. 2) Do not defend Chris Pronger under any circumstance. 3) Do not diss Steve Yzerman. * * This one is of particular importance. If you do otherwise, you will have shown that you know nothing about hockey, offended a local god, and have put your entirely family at risk. And their children. And their children's children. So my counter question is this: I'm a Detroit expat in SF these days. If the Wings pull the Ducks, I'm seriously considering a flight down to Anaheim. What can I expect? Any taboos there? Vincanni 1 Report post Posted April 24, 2009 A Duck fan at the Joe? Tell me your name, section number, and a brief description of you so I CAN HUNT YOU DOWN AND MAIM... kidding kidding. Everything previously stated is very true, with the exception of a few unsavory fans who are most likely just d-bags in general, you should be fine. Red Wing fans might be the most laid back in all the NHL, granted the playoffs do truly change everything so no promises.

No way! 90% of us are completely level-headed and not like that whatsoever. You may get some jaw-jacking back and forth, but I highly doubt anybody is going to attack you. No worries! Most of us are really good people.

But generally hockey fans are good sports. I attended a Broncos game in Denver and was wearing my L.T. jersey. Got harassed the whole time. Was even told to go back to San Diego while sitting in a van with Minnesota plates (interesting in it's self). Attended a MN Wild game rooting for the Wings and the wild guys were pretty laid back bout me being there. Even carried on conversations with them. You should be fine. teckaholic 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2009 Are you the same "teckaholic" on the Sharks board? If so, some of your posts on there come off a bit "taunting". Yes it is. The people on the SJ board have no respect for hockey or themselves. Because the Ducks were winning they were posting things about Marchant kids doing horrible things, trying to hack my photobucket account.. They assume because I am a Ducks fan that I dont know hockey. Yes, alot of Ducks fans have no idea about hockey BUT there are alot of passionate fans out there
Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted April 25, 2009 Hey Teck! You should be fine! I use to go to games all the time when I lived in MI, I sat next to Avalanche fans during the rivaly years, they were cool. Of course we ragged on them, and they ragged back, but it was all in good fun. I think one of them bought a round of beers for us!! Hope you and your wife enjoy the game!! GO WINGS!! teckaholic 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2009 Despite my hated for the Red Wings (Hey, I'm a Ducks Fan), The Wings have some of the dedicated fans in the league. I think the true reason why I hate them is that so many kids I knew growing up liked the Red Wings because they won. They looked at the standings and said, "oh they are good" and hopped on the train. As a Ducks fan..you know how many years we had to deal w/ horrible hockey. But I give credit to Wings fans..you are a class act

Stuck true ever since. Kinda one of the reasons why I hate so many Pens fans. Ask them who Jagr or Mario are and they can't tell you all they know is Crosby. Rather annoying if you ask me. Rivalred 630 Report post Posted April 25, 2009 (edited) You will be ok. Last year in the playoffs when a bunch of people were in the elevator heading to JLA from roof top at Cobo a woman from Ohio drove up to watch the game. She was wearing a Colorado Jersey that was signed. One guy said "we will make sure we talk real slow so you understand" and I said "you have some s*** on your jersey, does anyone have a rag so I can clean it up?" She was wearing a Roy Jersey with his autograph. That is an example of what Detroit Wings fans will say. Or for the kissing cam at the JLA, the workers there put a picture of 2 guy Av's fans sitting together like they were going to kiss. Fun times, no violence as long as your not looking for a fight. sjradio 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2009 Don't believe it, If you come to Detroit wearing a Ducks jersey or even showing any "Pro-Duck" mannerisms, you will be robbed in the parking lot, beaten up in the stands, have beer thrown at you in the concession stand. Violently beaten after the game and your car will be vandalized, because we take notes on fans as they enter the JLA parking lot. We know what car you have, (Believe me, we know cars in Michigan). Do you actually believe that you will be violently attacked??? No offense, but If you have actually been to Detroit and actually seen it you'd know that this is not the Detroit that you have always "heard of". Detroit's a great place, you're going to catch some grief but it's not anything like Philadelphia for a Pens fans or for anybody else in Philly for that matter. They now get more wins than they were getting points in the 70s and 80s. We were dealing with horrible hockey long before Anaheim were in any mention of getting a team. If I am taking my pregnant wife, I just dont want to deal w/ it You're going to find there are A-Holes everywhere, it happens a lot when you mix alcoholic beverages and sports. You're going to get some boos, some people are going to scream, but that's going to happen everywhere when you are cheering for the opposing team. You'll be fine. You'll get worse in Pittsburgh from Steeler fans, you'll get in worse in Chicago from Bears, Cubs, Sox, Bears, Bulls, and especially Hawks fans, Philly will try to pick a fight with everybody. Here's some linkage to read about what Flyers fans have been doing to Pittsburgh fans recently http://mondesishouse.blogspot.com/2009/04/...-on-morons.html
