WCSF GAME 2 GDT: Ducks 4 at Red Wings 3 (3OT)

In all honesty, Ozzie played his game. the rest of the team were in a daze for most of the game. Watching the puck instead of chasing after it. and for God's sake where is homer in front of the net?? No Wings in front of Hiller at all.

Just frustrated and venting........................

Go WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No one blames Ozzie for today's game. 1st goal, he stopped the first one, 2nd goal was kind hard to get it, 3rd goal was idiotic bounce from the board which cannot be controlled by any player.

I am not frustrated about this loss. It was same as the loss against the Pens in game 5 when I felt the sky was falling. However, this time, I feel more comfortable than that time. Same we outplayed them but I think the some of invisible Wings show up late in the 3rd and overtime. Hopefully the Wings show up huge and take the advantage from Honda Center this week.

Props to Osgood on a good game, too bad that the reason Det tied it was mostly our own eff ups and not skill on Det's part.

You would fit in perfectly with the Versus crew.

I guess getting the W made you oblivious to how bad we outplayed the Ducks today, yes we were certainly lucky to tie it.

Most exhausting game I've ever been to. I'm laying in bed typing this because I really really need a nap. :P

Couple things. First, let's remember that we ARE the defending Cup champs. Did any of us actually think we were going to sweep Anaheim? It's one loss. We aren't even down in the series yet. We're basically starting over from scratch. There's absolutely NO need to freak out over this loss. The Wings are a veteran team. They know how to win on the road.

Second.. The Ducks are comprised of one line, pretty much. Ryan, Getzlaf, Perry, Pronger, Niedermayer. After that, our depth COMPLETELY outranks the Ducks - and it's proven in our shot totals. I mean, 62 to 46? In the overtimes, we dominated the crap out of them - but Hiller was a wall. Getzlaf played over 30 minutes today. After awhile, that line is going to tire out.

We'll be perfectly fine. I have absolutely no worries about this team.

I mean, I don't think it's hard to understand why people would be upset following this game. No matter the circumstances, it's tough to lose a triple-overtime playoff game. I still have complete faith in the team, but this naturally puts people on edge a bit. It feels very similar to '07 and that didn't end very well. Folks are just a little anxious.

And say all you want about how much more talented the Wings are, they certainly haven't shown it thus far. They'll need to be much better from here on out if they want to win this series.

Yeah, my point is if we can't go 16-0 to bring the cup back home, then this loss is best case scenario of a loss.

Their top players are going to be exhasted down the stretch, while Bab rotates 4 solid lines (plus we got some top-tier talent coming back from injury's soon--more fresh legs).

Bad case scenario would be 6-0 blowout so the Ducks can rest their top players while playing their scrubs...

I'll take the triple OT loss, this is in Detroits favor down the stretch. We have heart and we proved that we're not going to lay down... we're going to play hard to the end.

I think Pens are a better team than the Ducks; and that's hard for me to say, but it's the truth... if we can beat Pens in 6, then should have no problems beating the Ducks in 6....

I expect gm#3 or 4 (or both) to be a blowout against the Ducks. Wings will bring it!

I am getting sick of these Un-screened blue line shots by the wings. They need to work the puck down low, and make hiller move side to side. It's really just turns into a wasted possession when the wings are ripping shots with no traffic. Also enough with the cute little passes to try and get the puck out of the zone, just make the simple pass. I would also like to see a little more forechecking.

umm maybe the wings will blow the ducks out of the water in game 3

then ducks win game 4

then ducks win game 5... (Teemu gets a takeaway in OT)

the ducks take game 6... O.o

Wings in 5. Next year, Ducks have a fire sale and sell the franchise to Dishnetwork and they rename the Ducks back to the "Mighty Ducks" and call Emilio Estevez to coach the team.

He invents a play called "Flaming V" which fails miserably and the team finishes in last place behind the Islanders.

Then in 2011 San Jose buys the Ducks franchise and tears down the Ponda building and puts up a Starbucks. Pronger waits tables until he gets his pension, then Walmart hires him to be door greeter. He gets his ass kicked by Wally customers 2-3 times per day. :D

I'm definitely ready for a nap. And I have a monster headache. Probably from all the screaming ;)

Also, I second and agree with everything you said.

This was a good game, even though we lost.

It's strange how historically poor the Wings are in overtime at home. It's just a sinking feeling the entire time because we've been hurt so many times before. Oh well. This makes the two games in Anaheim that much more important. I'm glad I won't be home to attend them with my family. That s*** would be too intense.

In order to win this series, our stars are going to need to be better. Simple as that. They are falling back into old trends and stereotypes.

I didn't get to watch the OT (and I'm glad I didn't) but what is the Wings record in playoff OT? I swear, every time it goes into OT, I subconsciously consider it a loss. It just seems inevitable with this team, no matter the names on the jersey.

Agree with the 1st bolded paragraph, but disagree a bit with the 2nd paragraph.

Like you said - no need to worry just yet - tied one a piece...Our shot totals IMO are a tad decieving; many poor quality shots taken from 20 plus feet away from the net with nobody in front of Hiller for a rebound, & not many chances created down low by cycling the puck like we had seen in the 1st game.

As a whole it looked like half the team was in a fog for a good portion of the game; Helm has been very impressive while Hossa looks like he's not 100%.

That's the thing. We're taking tons of shots from the blueline - completely unscreened. If we can just get in there, cause more traffic in front of Hiller, and screen him.. we're good to go. Our shot totals prove that it's NOT that we aren't penetrating the zone and it's NOT that our offense has been silenced. We just aren't creating enough scoring chances.

Helm was on fire today. Everything he did was great.. stick handling, hits, shots. He was working his butt off.

Call me crazy, but I think it may be time to re-unite the Euro twins.

Hossa is great with Flip, but it's hard to separate Zetterberg and Franz, they have been clutch together.

I wish there was a thread going on this now started by yours truly. :hehe:

Osgood let in 2 soft goals, Wings turned the puck over way to much, and the Ducks spent a lot of time in our zone. The Wings had trouble completing passes or getting to rebounds. They definitely did not show up to play today.

Agreed. Wings didn't show up and were sloppy, yet still outplayed the Ducks.

I'm not worried about this series at all.

I am not too concerned, but I do still wonder if Detroit will not show up for a few games and well, they just can not do that in the playoffs like they did in the regular season. We got killed on the face offs today. We definitely are missing Rafalski + Lija. There were just too many turnovers today also.

There was no way this series was going to be finished in 4 games, but I would feel a lot more comfortable going into the Honda Centre up 2-0 in the series than tied 1-1.

Hope the boys decide to show up and play hockey in game 3.

On the bright side, I'd hate the Wings to think that the effort they gave today was good enough for the series if they won tonight. They need to reflect hard on this tough loss, and look at what they're doing wrong. Theres a lot to look at, and it starts and ends with intensity.
