I heard the other day that there is a very good possibility that the Coyotes could move back to Winnipeg and the Thrashers could move to Quebec, possibly as early as next season.

I could only find http://www.tsn.ca/bl...zie/?id=356192.

Has anyone else heard this?

Papa Bettman will do absolutely everything in his power that he and his people can think of to prevent that from happening.

This is nothing new; a few threads discussing these very same topics.

Phoenix seems almost certain to become the Winnipeg Jets for the 2011/2012 season (about time)...Unless a miracle takes place, or Bettman's super-ego takes over - I honestly don't see how a franchise can continue losing $$$ in the desert...IMHO there are too many positives that outweigh anything remotely negative about a move back to Canada.

As for the Atlanta Thrashers - they could very well be on the move within a few years...Even though the Pepsi Coliseum (old home of the Nordiques) is a suitable home for a few seasons - there needs to be a new arena built, and funding for this has been front page news in Quebec for the past several months.

There is also talk that if the Coyotes move back to Winnipeg, the Wings would stay put in the Central Division, but if/when Atlanta moves then the Wings could possibly go to the Eastern Conference.

How? Quebec isn't going to the West.

There was a rumor started a while back that if relocation of two or more teams occurred, the Wings got priority to move. I've never seen this in any media, but it's a widely held rumor.

My bad, I got the situation a little mixed up. If Atlanta were the team that relocated to Winnipeg THEN the Wings would go East.

TSN mentioned this the other day. Bob McKenzie did a fluff piece which didn't actually say anything new, but people took the fact that Bob McKenize wrote it as giant news. Meh.

It was discussed on tonight's Hot Stove on CBC;
http://www.cbc.ca/vi...1/ID=1830635910

In case you couldn't view the video;

Pierre LeBrun of ESPN said "It's never been closer to reality than it is right now but its still not a done deal....next 7-10 days in Glendale, Az are the most critical since they've been in the desert.....they are going to try and sell the bonds to close the sale but I don't like the odds......doesn't look good in Phoenix.....city of Winnipeg, be ready!!"

Mike Milbury is insane. Not sure where he get the idea that a team in Winnipeg would lose 20 million a season. I think he's still using figures from the mid 90's. Helps that a Winnipeg franchise would be owned by the wealthiest guy in Canada, and I believe his net worth would make him the wealthiest owner in the NHL.

Now that I'm back home after 3 years of the Wings, would be nice to have some NHL hockey to attend again.

Yes but Detroit is already further east than Atlanta.

If a franchise moves from East to West Detroit will move to the East.

Yes, let's keep hockey in a city whose home games look like this -

IMHO it's 50/50 with Mad Mike.

Half the time he's got a good point, and the other half he's off his rocker.

Milbury claiming that Winnipeg lose $$$ - wtf?...He also has been on the anti-goon bandwagon (has also made comments how that fighting is in the game only due to it's entertainment value)...Mind you this was the same guy beating a spectator in the stands with a shoe.

From TSN:

The city of Glendale is prepared to sue the Goldwater Institute for stalling its deal with Chicago businessman Matthew Hulsizer for the Phoenix Coyotes.

Mayor Elaine Scruggs confirmed an ESPN.com report to the Arizona Republic on Sunday saying that city council has authorized an attorney to file suit against the government watchdog group
