If Goldwater can get the required number of signatures for a public referendum, those same people can become part of the "stop wasting our money on this and start spending on worthwhile things" faction. As for those claiming to be "fans", did they support the team during the regular season? Again, the numbers show not as much as they could.should have.
Only five councillors have votes? Sometimes, I guess there is greater safely in smaller numbers.

Glendale on Monday formally rejected petitions that sought to put a referendum on the November ballot that would have allowed voters to weigh in the city's Phoenix Coyotes deal.

From AZ Central:
Doesn't really matter, because the tax hike that Glendale wants to push through to keep the Coyotes above water IS going to be on the ballot.

This league has really become a laughing stock...No wonder other pro sports leagues thumb their noses at the NHL.

I say just move 'em to Quebec City, already. It has become painfully obvious that the Phoenix area has little interest in hockey, which has been conveyed over and over and over and over again with their attendance numbers near or dead last in the league on a yearly basis. Considering they aren't the mediocre team they once were, the "Oh, well people don't wanna pay to see a loser" excuse is now invalid. Hockey in the middle of the desert was and still is a horrible idea.Meh...I'm at the point in which I really don't care anymore.

Move them to where the people are passionate about the game, not to where the largest metropolitan population is.

I agree. The real bummer is that the team, management, and arena are all really really high quality in my opinion. I think the Phoenix organization has done more, with less, than any organization in recent memory and I really wish they would cut ties and allow that bunch to go some place they'll be appreciated.
I've always secretly sort of cheered for Tippet, Doan, Jovo (I know he's gone now), Vrbata, and even Bryz (before this Philly fiasco). I really liked their gritty, defensively responsible game. Everything but the location was something I could get on board with. Hell, with their track record they'd set the city of Columbus on fire. What a waste!

Same here. I was rooting for them last year once we got knocked out. I thought they had a really balanced team last year. Finesse guys like Vrbata, Hanzal, and Whitney and grittier guys like Doan, Kyle Chipchura and Boyd Gordon.I agree. Honestly, I've always like Jovanovski. I don't think many on here do, so I keep quiet about it for the most part

Well, whether you like Jovo or not, I think it's a fairly universal sentiment that the Coyotes have typically (since Gretzky) played the game the right way. I'd gladly cheer for them over the Washingtons, Tampa Bays, Pittsburghs, or Phillys of the league.
p.s. it seems weird putting Philly and Pittsburgh in there, but after last years "goal-fest" I have no reason to believe that either of those teams care about defense.

I believe they're on the right track, as far as overall success goes. They've continued to improve for a few consecutive years, now. They don't play a really flashy game, but they emphasize on the fundamentals, which is why they'd get unwavering support in a city like Quebec City.Well, whether you like Jovo or not, I think it's a fairly universal sentiment that the Coyotes have typically (since Gretzky) played the game the right way. Greg Jamison’s bid to buy the Phoenix Coyotes and keep the team in Glendale faces yet another deadline Friday along with renewed concerns over whether his ownership group has the investors and money to buy the team from the National Hockey League.
...
More good news for Uncle Gary. Jamison is "rich", but he doesn't want to use his own money to buy the team?

Just give them to Quebec already! Bettman had no problem moving teams from Quebec and Winnipeg to these markets, why are we so hesitant to piss off all 28 of the Coyote fans? No owner or investment group is going to prove a permanent solution. Its a bandaid on a broken, gangrenous leg. Cut it off and we can't stop wasting time and other people's money on keeping ice hockey in the desert.

Prospective Phoenix Coyotes buyer Greg Jamison is approximately $20 million short of the money he needs to buy the hockey team and keep it in Glendale.
...
I thought they said he was "rich"?
This is a good way to start. I can see why the League would want to have him a an owner.

Like someone said, the guy had no problem moving Quebec, Winnipeg or Atlanta so why now?
By now Jamison should have the money I am doubt, Shane will wait forever.
That's exactly the point, he didn't have a problem moving Canadian teams South, and he didn't have a problem moving a southern team back to Canada. So all these insinuations that Bettman has some aversion to moving southern teams is b.s. As much as he's moved teams all over the place, the fact that he hasn't moved this one means there's something different about it. I don't know what that something is, but clearly there's a difference or they would have gone the way of Atlanta a long time ago.
