Jamison is "rich"...as long as he's got other people's money to play with.

In the most clear sign yet of the fragility of Greg Jamison’s efforts to buy the Phoenix Coyotes, Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers said an attorney representing Jamison called him late Wednesday night to ask for an extension on a lucrative arena-management deal.

The city previously offered Jamison a 20-year deal that pays him an average of $15 million a year to manage Jobing.com Arena. However, the deal mandates that Jamison has to purchase the Coyotes from the NHL by 11:59 p.m. Arizona time today.

If Jamison misses the deadline, the deal evaporates.

Weiers said of extending the deadline: “Obviously, we’re not going to do that.”

Weiers also said that he was contacted late Wednesday night by representatives of two separate groups who expressed interest in buying the Coyotes and keeping the team in Glendale if Jamison fails to purchase the team.

The mayor declined to identify the two new groups. He said he could not immediately access the genuineness of the apparent new suitors. “Everybody’s trying to figure out how to get a piece of the pie here,” Weiers said. “I mean, really nothing’s happened other than talk.”

No fanbase deserves, what the fans of the Coyotes are going through, the NHL and especially Jamison should be ashamed of themselves. Either he has the money or doesn't, either the team is staying or relocating but right now they are playing with the people emotions just to piss them off in the end. This is wrong.

Wonder how the Nordiques nation is feeling about that whole fiasco, maybe Peladeau has the money ready like TN did?

The league has done so much damage to the Coyotes fanbase that I don't see it recovering easily even if a new owner WITH MONEY comes forward (which seems virtually impossible). At this point, it would just be good to move them to QC, and grant Glendale an AHL team, with all the talk in mind from the BoG about having AHL farm teams in the West. Phoenix would be a good affiliate market for the Kings or Ducks. Time to cash out, this has gone on too long.

also, the 19 articles thing...thank Gannet, who also owns the Detroit News/Free Press...

Realistically, I agree that it would be much better for the league to relocate the Coyotes to a more marketable area. Selfishly, I hope the Yotes stay here because then I get to actually see the Wings play. I know a lot of the other Michigan transplants feel the same way. I just ask that the league give me enough notice if they decide to relocate the team so I can move somewhere else with hockey lol.

The league handled this in the absolute worst way and Jamison is playing with peoples emotion, what an idiot.

19 articles crap can be easily fixed just install "request policy" for firefox just tried it and already way over 20 articles on both sites. If they move the league should give Phoenix an AHL team I think they could do really well as an Ducks, Colorado farmteam.

It sucks for the fans in PHO but it's just not working. And it's because of that heartbreak that it angers me that Bettman and his company of screwhead idiots inject teams into markets that don't want it when they have no clue how to sell it. You can see it coming a mile away when their process of giving a city a team boils down to "do you have an arena, an owner and money? SOLD!". They don't care about support either because they blindly think they can drum it up, or they just don't care.

I agree that giving them an AHL team should help, and they should just move the Yotes to Seattle. QC will get their team likely when another city does, so as to expand to 32.

Seattle? Obviously they are Atlanta the next generation their ownership wants the team only to help them fund the NBA arena, this is a desaster waiting to happen. I think Hamilton and QC are the obvious choices if it comes down to relocating.

Atlanta had no business getting a team, no one cared to begin with. Seattle supports two WHL teams very well and they have a ton of kids playing hockey. One of the WHL teams retained 95% of season ticket holders and saw IIRC around a 10% increase in attendance and this was while they sucked. The other still draws a lot of people in spite of the belief that they couldn't succeed and their attendance is also pretty good while being near the middle or bottom of the standings. There are some investors who believe it's the best market without a team and probably better than some places with a team. Adult hockey participation is 12th overall in the entire country. It's close to the Canadian border and filled an arena when the NHL played a preseason game in Everett. And the fans are notoriously loud and die-hard. The Seahawks have the loudest stadium in the NFL by far and even their soccer team has passionate supporters. The biggest downside would be that they would have NFL, NBA, MLS, MLB and junior hockey teams to compete with. But Boston and other cities have a large amount of pro teams and no one claims Boston or New York or Detroit are poor markets.

Seattle would be nothing like Atlanta.

$5 says one of the "interested parties" was none other than Gary Bettman talking on the phone, and disguising his voice as a woman.

Agreed.

Seattle wants the Milwaukee Bucks much more so than the Phoenix Coyotes.

NY, Boston, and Detroit are much older markets that have developed a strong following since the 1920's.

I'm skeptical if fans who are used to paying WHL prices are ready for paying NHL prices?

Now with that being said - I wouldn't mind seeing the "Seattle Totems" take to the ice, and create a rivalry with Vancouver - however they could always wind up like the SuperSonics...Speaking of which - what would happen to the NHL club if the NBA would make a return to Seattle?

I've seen conflicting reports on how NHL hockey would do in Seattle. I believe polls in Seattle Newspapers indicated that they preferred both an NHL team and an NBA sharing an arena, as opposed to just an NBA team. I recall that government officials expressed the same sentiment.

With that said, its hard to gauge NHL interest since, reportedly, the NBC affiliate in Seattle stopped airing NHL games quite a while ago, after some kind of ownership change, not ratings (correct me if I'm wrong). You'd really have to start showing it on tv again, maybe getting the Canucks to play an exhibition game there, to see what the interest level was.

I feel bad for hockey fans in Arizona. But, remember that under realignment, the Wings would only be coming out here once a season.

Sure NY, Boston and Detroit are almost a 100 years old. What about Minnesota, Colorado, Philly, Calgary, San Jose or Tampa Bay? At some point some city who didn't have an NHL team went through something like this. These fans are used to paying NFL and NBA prices, I dunno if the NHL would scare them off.

I'm so sick of this song and dance, just with a different person every few months, sell the team or relocate it. I don't need to be constantly reminded of how bad a gm bettman is, I already know
