MattPlay 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 (edited) Why did Babs call him up? Are we in need of some old school grit? He made the trip to Aneheim for game 6, but I guess didn't dress. I would love to see McCarty teach Getzlaf, Perry, or, well any freakin' Duck, a little lesson about Red Wing hockey. I know he is slow now but his experience has always seemed to provide solid positioning and performance when he has played recently. I guess if he did play, which he probably won't, he woldn't be against the Getzlaf line... Edited May 14, 2009 by MattPlay
thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Any player on the Grifs with any chance of playing if the Wings plane crashed and they all died got called up when the Grifs got bounced from the AHL playoffs. It means nothing, he shouldn't play, move on.

And also 'just in case'. There is no negative to having McCarty on the roster. A couple McCarty boxing lessons 101 for a few of the guys might not be a bad idea though. 10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Yeah, let's play the old fart who can barely skate in game 7 of the playoffs. Not to mention matching him up to Getzlaf or Perry. I seriously wonder where some ppl on this board come from.

McCarty being on the ice with Getzlaf and Perry would result in a goal well before it would result in a fight. Red Wings hockey isn't fighting. It's skill. Yeah but I hate to see our skilled players getting their asses kicked with no one doing anything about it...
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Yeah but I hate to see our skilled players getting their asses kicked with no one doing anything about it... No one's going to be swinging tomorrow, unless they want to lose five valuable minutes of sixty in an elimination game.

thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Yeah but I hate to see our skilled players getting their asses kicked with no one doing anything about it... Are you saying McCarty would have been on the ice for the last shift last night, or would have left the bench?
MattPlay 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Zips flame suit up --- just saying we could use a little grit. No I don't think he would have been on the ice for the last shift... I said in my original post, I realize he is old and slow and he probably wouldnt match up to the Getzlaf line... Just saying after Neids elbow to Dats that it would be nice to know we had someone getting on the ice who might avenge it, against anyone... However, I know we don't need to worry about that in gm7 since its do or die... I guess it just disgusts me to see the punk ducks get the best of us in any way... Thats what enforcers are for... Take care of your skilled guys... We dont have one on our roster... Oh wait, we do... Darren!
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 The ultimate payback is knocking their goon asses out of the playoffs. Get bigger and meaner in the offseason and show them toughness in the regular season next year. Right now, I just want to beat these guys more then anything. Perry is a ***** and if we're not gonna crack his skull, get him and his team the HELL out of the playoffs tommorow night!!!
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Rumor has it that he will be playing on the 1st line tomorrow night with Franzen and Datsyuk. Finally, we have a right handed shot playing with Pavel. This could turn things around for Datsyuk and now no one will pick on him with McCarty on the ice. Perry is a ***** and if we're not gonna crack his skull, get him and his team the HELL out of the playoffs tommorow night!!! I agree... Our focused skill can blow them out in gm7, especially in JLA. I guess I was just intrigued by Babs calling him up and bringing him to Aneheim.... I guess I don't see the logic in what someone above said... He's there "incase the plane crashes" but they put him on the plane. I guess i'm not so scared of seeing Darren out there...
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 He is there because he's a member of the team who is something like 1,354th in line for a 4th line spot. The Wings are deep, and this is good. If he provides some positive vibes in the locker room, gives a few fighting tips for use in self-defense, and does his usual good job of fan interaction, who is he hurting? It's not like he's going to see any ice time. It also gives some of us older folks an opportunity to remember what he has done and be grateful that he has worn the Winged Wheel. What's the harm? DMAC 25 18 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 No one's going to be swinging tomorrow, unless they want to lose five valuable minutes of sixty in an elimination game. the only time people will be swinging is when the wings are beating up on the ducks and the games over with in the second period
