I still need to be slapped. I can not yet believe that it's gonna be a Wings vs Blackhawks conference finals. I wonder what those who always said the Wings only do good because they beat up on the weak central are saying now? 4 of the 5 made the playoffs, and 2 of them are all that remail in the west. I'm loving it. I am disappointed in what happened in the east, but oh well1 Go Wings!!! Loved the crowd tonight!!!

Saw all the necessary highlights just now, the concert kicked ass (ears are still ringing), and Ms_Hockey rules for texting me for every goal + intermission updates! After the game a ton of friends messaged me about the Wings winning, which was kind of a pleasant surprise too -- wasn't the cup but I'll take that for now.

No way in Hades I am shifting through 96 pages, but I am curious if someone has mentioned the Wings knocked off 2 of the hotter goaltenders down the stretch of the regular season and in the playoffs, even though they were rookies.

the thing that impressed me the most about the ducks this series was their tight-checking defense. it seemed that the wings rarely if ever had any time or space while controlling the puck in the offensive zone. the ducks, meanwhile, particularly the getzlaf unit, cycled at will with plenty of time and space on multiple occasions. thankfully, ozzie came up huge and we buried our chances when we had them. obviously every goal is key, but if helmet doesn't bury that breakaway goal, it's a totally different game.

i think this series perfectly illustrates what a genius ken holland is. all players are going to go through rough spells. getzlaf and perry were "on" nearly this entire series, while datsyuk and hossa were off for most of it (save for one huge game by hossa). nevertheless, it's the clearys, the hudlers, and, yes, the sammys of our team that push us over the edge when we need it most. this series was won by will and great general managing, that put our team in a position to get scoring from every line.

looking ahead, the hawks are a much more balanced team than the ducks. despite how great toews and kane are, i don't think they match up as well as the getzlaf unit did. this team has had a tough time with big physical opponents and had an easier time with more skilled players (see rick nash in the first round of this playoff). nevertheless, simply looking at stats, the hawks have ten players with six or more points in the playoffs compared to the ducks' seven. (we have nine, with datsyuk underproducing (only 5 points) and rafalski missing a bunch of games.) as others have stated, they have a more open, run-and-gun system than the ducks, which i think will play to our strengths (but will also make it even *more* key that we limit neutral zone turnovers and make sure dumpins get DEEP on changes).
