GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 Makes a lot more sense than this conspiracy crap. You really think a nine-day wait in between games is a good idea for the league? Why would the NHL want to compete with the NBA Finals - and a possible Kobe-LeBron matchup - for attention? I doubt they'd be playing on the same night. If the NHL really wants to get the Finals over with in order to not compete with the NBA, they should just play the entire series in 7 days. This league is stupid, and can't pick the medium between extremes. If they didn't want to wait 9 days, they could have at least waited just around 4 or 5 days like I suggested in my above post. The back to back games is something neither you nor the NHL can justify as being fair.

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 This is unbelievable. For a 3rd straight year, a local telethon is blacking out a Stanley Cup Finals game down here, maybe two this year. I'm all for raising money for a good cause, but not during a championship sporting event, regardless of if it is my favorite team or not. I have to drive to southern Mississippi or Baton Rouge to watch game 1 and possibly 2 now. I'm so f**king pissed.
GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 Like hell it does, all of you sound like you should be calling in to Coast to Coast AM with George Noory. Bettman doesn't want the SCF going up against the NBA Finals in the ratings. It has nothing to do with who is playing, I am 100% convinced if it was the Wings and Carolina or the Wings and Boston or the Wings and Washington, the Finals would be starting on Saturday. The Finals for the 2 leagues won't likely be played on the same night. They usually aren't. And Bettman making decisions is exactly why people are upset and claiming a conspiracy. This man can't make proper decisions.

They'll get the Finals over with quickly, not compete with the NBA, and the Wings will likely lose due to fatigue and injuries. How can you complain about those results? Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted May 28, 2009 And Bettman making decisions is exactly why people are upset and claiming a conspiracy. This man can't make proper decisions. No s*** the man can't make proper decisions, we've known that for years. The point is, THERE IS NO CONSPIRACY. The League is not in cahoots to f*** this team over and give Jesus Christ Crosby and the Holy Malkin Spirit a Stanley Cup parade. Okay? They're not. And the more people beat this drum, the more asinine they sound. Gary Bettman is not smart enough to conspire to wipe his own ass, much less put a fix in for the Finals. The idea of moving the Finals up for television has been in the works for about a month and a half, before the idea of a Cup rematch was even a twinkle in someone's eye. This is purely being done for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and ratings. That's it.

I don't see why it'd be bad this season all of a sudden. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Bettman wants money. Even if the NBA Finals and SCF aren't going to be happening on the same day, if they're going on at the same time, you're competing for advertising money. If Bettman moves the Finals up, he has nothing sports-wise, stopping him from. The league needs money. Bettman wants money. He's doing this purely for dollars, and while it shows no regard for the players' health, it's what we've come to expect from him anyway. Everyone quit whining about it and move on. The Wings have to, the Pens have to.....so should we.

Its obvious that we both have a different opinion here. I just don't think its that big of a disadvantage. The only argument I can hear about how it is a disadvantage is....well.....the league is screwing us. There just is no valid argument for it or against it. Both teams are banged up. Both teams have little to no rest coming into the game on Saturday. It isn't like the Pens have been sitting on their ass for a week. The Pens have to travel to our rink to play on reduced rest. It just seems to me that the people complaining about this are setting the Wings up for losing the cup and using the scheduling as a convenient excuse. Make no mistake Wings fans.....if the Wings lose in the Cup finals it will not be the scheduling or the refs fault. The Wings will be to blame.
