How important is the effect of our PP/PK in this series

what do you guys/gals thing the importance of our power play or pentaly kill effect on this stanley cup finals?

to me our PK is horriable, and our PP seems sluggish compared to the season.

what u guys think? by the way both have been can we win?

PK is easily our biggest weakness. That said, the Penguins have awful PP numbers, something in the realm of 18%. On the flip side their PK is better but our PP is absolutely dominating compared to their. Gonna be interesting to see which one ends up winning out.

Our PK has looked a lot better lately, despite that horrible streak. But it's going to have to be very good, because you can expect the Pens to get a lot more PP's than us, if their earlier series are anything to go by.

I think our PP has the ability to shred their PK, but I still have my doubts about our own PK. Crosby seems to have taken a page out of John Tavares' book and has camped himself to the left of the goalie on a regular basis (see Hank's 5-on-3 play from last year). Someone like Lilja would be a big bonus in that situation, our left D in that instance would need to try to keep the passing lane blocked so there's no easy cross-seam pass for a tap-in.

I think our PK is good enough to keep their power play pretty much shut down but they need to remember to always get the puck 200 feet down the ice. That was a problem that plagued this team all year.

I still dont' understand why our PK has been so subpar this year. The entire year! A 73% PK in the playoffs? Wow. That's gotta rank amongst the worst ever. It's just hard to believe we are that bad on the PP. Why do you guys think that is?

It seems the only way teams stay in the games against us is because of our crappy PK. We faced two potent power play teams in Anaheim and Chicago. I don't think Pitt is as good as those two...ironic considering all the hyper with Malkin and Crosby.

In my opinion, our PK has looked a lot better than our numbers suggest. But the numbers don't lie. Even if we have an awesome penalty kill for 1:55, theres still those 5 seconds where somebody can score on us, and in most cases, teams have capitalized on the few mistake we make on our PK.

To answer the question, I think our PK is the biggest "key" () to this series. Namely, because we've allowed a PP goal in practically every game, and specifically as it pertains to this series, its probably going to see a lot more work. I can't imagine going through a series against the Pens where we're only killing penalties 2-4 times.

Add to that the fact that Crosby and Malkin will be on the ice for the majority of that time, and its a pretty big deal. Both guys average about 6 minutes per game, so we're looking at having Crosby and Malkin on the ice for the equivalent of 3 total powerplays.

Me neither. I have no clue. It must take a lot of mental strength, toughness and energy to play well on the PK and maybe that's just something they've been trying to manage properly until the playoffs/finals. Me hopez that they've been 'saving themselves' for this series.

Other than that, didn't the league move the blue line back about a foot and half or something this year? That might seem insignificant but that nevertheless gives more space on the PP.

The problem with our PK is that we give opposition easy entry into the zone. The PK starts with denying entry, and the Wings aren't very good at doing that.

The rest is because we do a poor job of not allowing point shots.
