Assuming no Lids or Draper, I'll vote for Cleary. Not a Wings lifer, but a definite character guy who knows the price you have to pay because he's been on both sides of it. Don't rule out Hossa if we re-sign him, he's completely bought into the Red Wings Way, IMO.

I freaking love Helm and he could be a candidate if we're not making this call for a couple years, but it's a tad premature now.

I'm sorry, but LOL @ Helm being the next alt. captain. He's an awesome player, but you're not going to give someone the A just because the fans like them.

The firsty reply is the best one. I would say Kronner/Rafski.

Rafalski gets one when Lidstrom is gone. Skill and seniority pretty much guarantees it out of respect.

Beyond Rafalski, I can see Kronner getting one, but I don't see Franzen. I'm not sure why, to be honest, just a gut feeling that Franzen isn't really a team leader anymore than anyone else on the team. I could see Cleary getting one as well.

A - Draper if he's still there and if he's not than Franzen.

The logo on the front is always more important than the name on the back

That's what I thought because I remember when Draper, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Lidstrom are in the line-up Lids has the C while the other three have A's on them.

Pretty much impossible for us fans to know who would be suitable for the A since we have no idea of what's going on in the locker room or who is most respected guy by the other players in the team.

Hossa if he stays or Franzen for sure. I want ot say Helm, but if Lids retires in 2010 when is contract is up or even a couple years after that, Helm would have been playing full-time in the NHL for what like 3 years? His time will come.

I'm basing my Kronner guess on how he is during interviews (they want someone who can talk to the media) and from reports on how well he gets along with the guys and helps the new guys get situated in Detroit.

My money on the board pledge:

$1 for each goal scored by a player after whom I have named a hamster.

An additional $5 for each hat trick scored by a player after whom I have named a hamster.

An additional $10 if any of the above goals is the GWG goal that gives us the series win.

An additional $50 if it is the GWG that wins us the Cup.

$5 for a SO by Jimmy.

Each team has one C and two A's dressed per game. For us Lidstrom always has the C and then Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Draper rotate. So every third game you will see one of those three without an A.
