UPDATE: Coach Mike Babcock just said that Pavel Datsyuk told him that he's planning to play, but the final decision hasn't been made yet. Babcock said it's not his decision, meaning Datsyuk and the trainers will make the final call. Babcock said that the only lineup change at the moment is Kris Draper in and Justin Abdelkader out. That said, everything points to Datsyuk's return, including the way he's practicing. Pittsburgh coach Dan Bylsma said that he's expecting Datsyuk to play.

Pavel Datsyuk game-time decision; Justin Abdelkader out as Kris Draper returns

by Ansar Khan

Thursday June 04, 2009, 11:44 AM

Update from Thursday's morning skate: Coach Mike Babcock said Pavel Datsyuk (foot) will be a game-time decision tonight. Datsyuk skated again this morning during an optional practice.

Babcock said Kris Draper is replacing Justin Abdelkader in the lineup tonight. Abdelkader scored a goal in each of the first two games of the finals. But with Draper back at the fourth-line center, Babcock elected to keep Ville Leino in (though he'll likely be scratched if Datsyuk is in) because he is better on the wing than Abdelkader, whom Babcock said is much more effective at center.

My boy eklund just sent me a msg saying "Datsyuk to play e4" he also stated Godzilla was to rip open the mellon arena roof tonite .. e4!!

Making fun of Eklund = always hilarious.

Hopefully Pav's ready to tear this thing apart, because we need him in a big way right now.

He broadcasts for CBC. He cannot be trusted on Wings issues.

Not so fast. According to Bruce MacLeod on Twitter:

Bad sign ... Datsyuk is still on the ice working out. Players who are in games skate for 30 minutes max in morning Datsyuk is at 75 minutes.

Is it really odd for a guy who hasn't played in 2-3 weeks to be out there longer on game day after coming off injury?

I think he is playin. He said he plans on playing, so I believe he is just pushin it hard just to be sure.

thats what I was thinking. Wouldn't he want to make sure he was really ready? Maybe I don't know much on the subject.

Knew I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up too much. This after I just called nearly everyone in my dept. at work to let them know the good news.

Not gonna sweat it either way. So what do we have now?

Franzen - Zetterberg - Cleary

Holmstrom - Helm - Hossa

Samuelsson - Filppula - Hudler

Leino - Draper - Maltby

??

I still like our chances!! Man, our team is AWESOME.

I really don't think he's going to be in tonight. Ken Campbell of the Hockey News said on Sportsnet that he asked Ken Holland if Datsyuk will be in the line up and he said it does not look like it.

There was an optional skate this morning and Datsyuk stayed on the ice for the extra 45 minutes with the injured/scratched players working on his ankle.

Update from Thursday's morning skate: Coach Mike Babcock said Pavel Datsyuk (foot) will be a game-time decision tonight. Datsyuk skated a long time this morning, for about an hour after most his teammates were finished.

"I feel much better, I can make more turns,'' Datsyuk said. "I'll go pregame skate and make a decision.''

Bruce Macleod-UPDATE: Datsyuk just got off the ice after a 90-minute hard workout. He said that he'll be in the pregame skate and will decide after that. Datsyuk said that he worked out three times longer than usual in the morning skate to test himself further, to see how his legs would react to more of a game-like situation.

That said, a 90-minute hard workout in the morning is a very unusual thing to do the day of a game.

It seems like it's his decision now.

Here what I know, there's NO WAY he's jacked up like Yzerman was in 02,but then again there was never a question about Steve's hunger. It's the finals, time to rise to greatness Dats, and show what your made of.
