djt813 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 Interesting parallel between games 1, 2, and 5. Detroit lead & Pittsburgh becomes a bunch of dirty punks throwing cheap shots and wicked slashes. What a bunch of classy guys. I can see why Bettman wants Crosby & Malkin to be the face of the league! Games 3 and 4, interestingly, have no cheap shots or bitter penalties just because we were getting beat. Thankfully the refs did a little more to step up and control the violence, keeping our players from getting hurt by a bunch of petulant children.
Firehawk 305 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 They aren't the only team that does it. I hate when they try to injure Detroit players. Anaheim, Chicago, and Pit all did it. It drives me nuts.

I think the word "class" is the most over-used word on hockey forums. I don't know about most of you but for the 2+ decades of hockey I've played, class isn't really what i'm thinking about when I'm out there. If i'm pissed, i'm pissed and I may do something vicious. It's hockey. Not some ******* charm school.

I think Calgary a couple years ago takes the prize - was it Billington that went in for 20 seconds just to two-hand Franzen across the chest?

Barrie 900 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 The League really needs to step in and start suspending guys for losing their cool. The NHL should keep their players safe. Also if they are trying to gain new fans in the USA, how does it look when one team are a bunch of poor sports? All it shows Americans is that Canadians and Europeans are a bunch of babies when things don't go their own way. Hockey is probably the only occupation when you're loosing you can start beating up your opponent. Imagine if that was allowed in society? If you lose a client to someone, it's ok to beat them up. It isn't civil. I'm starting to wonder if the courts need to step in. Hockey isn't a good example to kids.
GAWing 1 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 A team with hopes of winning the Cup doesn't act so idiotic on the big stage. I just hope it carries over to Tuesday and the Wings can celebrate in Pittsburgh again.

Take Rugby for example - I'm sure most people will agree it is a sport with just as much (if not more) physicality and violence as Hockey, and while tempers occasionally boil over and the odd punch or cheap shot is thrown, at the end of the game win or lose you shake the opponent by the hand and walk off. All this "sending a message" BS is just that, BS. The only message it sends is "I'm not as good as you and the only way I can respond to that is with violence". Its the mindset of the child, the immature and the bully. And just look what an effective tactic it is! The last 2 years Nashville, Colorado, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Anaheim, Chicago and Pittsburgh again have all tried "sending a message" to Detroit. Yep, Detroit got that message loud and clear

I did hear that Talbot fell and hit his head in the dressing room and was taken to hospital for precautionary tests. The results: the CT Scan of his head showed nothing. The last 2 years Nashville, Colorado, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Anaheim, Chicago and Pittsburgh again have all tried "sending a message" to Detroit. Yep, Detroit got that message loud and clear I completely agree. I played rugby for four years and at the end of every game the home team always took the visitors out for dinner or at least provided food to them before they went home. It's tradition for that sport, and I think this kind of sportsmanship needs to happen in more sports. Not skipping out on the media when you lose, skipping handshakes, or cheap shotting. These men are professionals who make millions to play their sport. It's time they start acting like professionals. Especially the players wearing the "C" or "A" (Crosby, Malkin, Pronger, Iginla, Niedermayer, etc.)

Not just Pittsburgh. It's a part of the game for better or worse. Sometimes it costs you, sometimes it doesn't. Last night, it cost Pittsburgh dearly.
