Class and Hockey.

Fan board denizens love to break out the class card when waxing unphilosophical about their opposition’s players. When they speak of their own they call classlessness by another name, grit. A cross check in the crease is a travesty; unless it is the hometown skate jockey grittily clearing out the area for your net minder. A medium-hard tap on the shin with the blade of a stick after the play is a horribly uncouth thing to do in a civilized game like hockey; unless it is your guy giving my guy a small reminder that he'll be there all game ready to mix it up. That, my son, is grit at grits best. Did he get an elbow up? What a lout. Did he take a run? Such a cretin. You see the way our guy facewashed their guy after their guy had the audacity to go after a rebound that our guy gave up after their guy, who beat our guy, wristed one toward our net and our guy? Grit, man, grit. Hey our guy only slashed your guy because your guy got his stick high (in such a classless way) a few shifts ago. Your guy is a classless animal. Our guy; gritty competitor.

I, for one, think the only classy moment in hockey should be handshake ceremony (slash) tradition at the end of a very classless and gritty playoff series.

Now a disclaimer from our lawyers: The authors and their counterparts do not nor have they ever condones a purposeful slash to the possible broken foot of an opposing teams start player back for his first game in a series. Although we freely admit that action to be classless; we also admit it takes some fair level of grit to pull it off on national TV.

Learn the names of your hockey players, Then learn the names of ours..

Because this guy that guys and that guy this guy is not understandable.

Also remember the plays if you want to accuse, that way you have proof.

I watched a CLASSLESS game on the Pens end, Hence why they were in the box all night.

So go Check up on the plays you accuse another team of doing before you go to that teams forum and spew incomprehensible mumbojumbo.

Mr. Flintstone, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

So classless of you to not give me better constructive critisism. wink.

You've confused what grit is, OP. Grit is just as much playing within the rules as classy. Slashing people and committing penalties is not grit. It's a penalty and dirty. I'm not quite sure the point of all this -- to suggest people are biased for their own team (Contras vs. Freedom Fighters) or suggesting people don't know what grit really is?

See post #7

protip: the OP could be OP'd on any hockey board in any city for any team.

I bet you most OP's would also be a little bit more coherent in their OP, too, and a bit less of a condescending prick.

Maybe something to think about in the future.

Am I the only one who could understand what he was saying with the whole "that guy/our guy" thing.?

I mostly agree that fans will call their team gritty and the other team classless for doing the same thing. However, you can have both grit and class, i.e. Draper and Cleary.

A cogent point emerges. The OP agrees.

*Points to the Contras vs. Freedom Fighters thing*

It isn't that the message is difficult to get, the OP is just not being forthcoming about the intent of their post, and being an a douchehat on top of it, as seen throughout the topic so far.

PS -- hi OP!

I think the OP has a point. Class is one strange word.

I also think that this is entertaining.

PS -- hi OP!

Forthcoming is as forthcoming is gleaned from the post. Tis' no ones fault but yours (or maybe your public school system) that the post was not as forthcoming as you needed it to be. Next time I will write it in crayon or better yet with one of those gigantic pencils on the three-lined practice paper they give you in the 2nd grade.

5-star just because half the people here are getting angry because they can't comprehend.

I agree that the class vs grit argument is defined from the perspective of the viewer. But the leaders of your team have to lead by example. The shots taken by Cindy and Eve last night were classless. You would NEVER see us take our frustrations out on the other teams’ players. Game 5 down by 2 in their building, were we running at Cindy or Eve? The Pens took a run at Lids if I remember correctly. No class even in victory! We took our loss like grown ups, not spoiled kids looking like someone reneged on a promise.

I let Talbot's shot go as goons will do what goons do and it could be said that by that time in the game Dats should not have been on the ice to begin with. But it was a cheap shot none the less.

Is there any irony (the most overused and misused word on the intertubes) in the idea that in a discussion about class a poster uses female nicknames for male players? I wonder where, in the grand scheme of life, misogyny ranks on the list of classlessness. I would wager it might be higher than boarding.

Can you, MrB0629, explain what exactly it is about women you find so horrible that the mere mention that man might be one is such a slight to their character?

C'mon guys not liking the charakter of that guy or the way he behaves in this topic is one thing. But one can not really argue the point that he makes regarding class vs grit issue.
