MrB0629 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 (edited) Is there any irony (the most overused and misused word on the intertubes) in the idea that in a discussion about class a poster uses female nicknames for male players? I wonder where, in the grand scheme of life, misogyny ranks on the list of classlessness. I would wager it might be higher than boarding. Can you, MrB0629, explain what exactly it is about women you find so horrible that the mere mention that man might be one is such a slight to their character? First, I merely used names that reflect the amount of class they showed. Both were acting like spoiled school girls throwing a hissy fit. Second, you don't refute the underlying premise of my post so I can assume I'm correct. The leadership of the Pens showed no class and or maturity in last nights loss. Until they understand what that means they will never be champions Edited June 7, 2009 by MrB0629

Second, you don't refute the underlying premise of my post so I can assume I'm correct. The leadership of the Pens showed no class and or maturity in last nights loss. Until they understand what that means they will never be champions Ok. So the crux of your point is that women and little girls are spoiled and they throw hissy fits? Deeper issues then we need to get into here. Suffice it to say, wouldn't want to be your wife, mother, sister. Next. And I will use an anecdotal story that you might relate to, being a fan of the Red Wings. Was it classy, funny, gritty, good character, or school girlish for Mr. Franzen to take the mouthpiece out of an opponent well over 5 inches and maybe 75 lb smaller and throw it on the ice? Some might say that lacked character, tact, manners, good sportsmanship, and class. Others might say it was hockeyish and give him kudos in the form of moving gifs as avatars and ear-to-ear grins when speaking of it.
jollymania 162 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 wow this dude is a self righteous ******* none of his words were that tricky but is a convoluted statement that would have easily only garnered 2 sentences, and why it needs a thread i have no idea
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 So classless of you to not give me better constructive critisism. wink. I just like quoting Billy Madison whenever possible. I personally hate the terms "classless", "classy" and "gutless" and refuse to use them for the most part. Though I'm pretty sure I may have slipped from time to time and used the word "classless". I still hate it though. Hockey message boards have destroyed those words for me.

Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 Mr. Flintstone, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. Billy Madison FTW. I've used that quote on message boards more than I'd care to admit.

Guest Shoreline Report post Posted June 7, 2009 Forthcoming is as forthcoming is gleaned from the post. Tis' no ones fault but yours (or maybe your public school system) that the post was not as forthcoming as you needed it to be. Next time I will write it in crayon or better yet with one of those gigantic pencils on the three-lined practice paper they give you in the 2nd grade. And big crayons or pencils would help with someone who had an alleged problem with someone not being forthcoming? Maybe you should go to that public school system. hamip1998 3 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 You've confused what grit is, OP. Grit is just as much playing within the rules as classy. Slashing people and committing penalties is not grit. It's a penalty and dirty. I'm not quite sure the point of all this -- to suggest people are biased for their own team (Contras vs. Freedom Fighters) or suggesting people don't know what grit really is? Spot on. Grit isn't about throwing off the gloves and giving two handed slashes, it's going in the corners and coming out with the puck. It's finishing your checks. Like Coach Babcock states over and over, it's going to those hard areas and taking it to the net. You can be gritty without being a goon.

This entire thread just went WAY over your head. For the uneducated, this thread is criticizing the hypocrisy that goes on within the confines of most fan-bases. We praise Franzen for ripping the mouthguard out of Kane's mouth (I distinctly recall making a comment to my brother last night that Mule should start a mouthguard collection in his locker), and then whine about Crosby taking a cheap shot at Zata, Talbot taking a cheap shot at Dats, etc. He's not saying that one side is right or wrong, only that people are so polarized in their views that it's pretty much impossible to criticize anyone else for their view, because odds are, you're being just as much of a homer as they are. Flintstone Cicarelli 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2009 The true definitions of grit and class don't seem to be misunderstood. The application of these definitions is the discussion at hand.

But most people attack his way of posting instead of discussing his (in my opinion valid) point that he made in his first post. he has some tricky wording in there, i think he's trying to bait wings fans into agreement with him unknowingly, some of what he says has merit but in the end he is jsut a frustrated pens fan trying to defend crosby's weak attempt at captaincy and cooke and talbot's apparent mental disorders among other things that his team has done wrong and the wings have done right up to this point

I don't think you get where everyone else is coming from, though. When I was growing up, one thing my parents always told was "it's not what you say but how you say it". If the thread starter had been less of a ****** and didn't come off to people like a condescending jackass, people would be more receptive to what he was saying. To use a different analogy, when you serve filet mignon and a baked potato on a garbage can lid, it doesn't matter what the food is - it's the way it's presented that sticks with you and it's not appetizing anymore. How odd. Edited June 7, 2009 by Flintstone Cicarelli
