He was also one of my favorites. I really wish he would start doing games again. Something about his voice was very memorable.

I've always loved Gary as well. As a huge bonus, i will always get to hear his voice in my head calling Abdelkader's game winning goal with 18.9 left in the NCAA championship win for MSU back in '07.

He had a great voice and tremendous enthusiasm. He called many of the biggest games for the Wings from when I was a boy. I'd love to have him back.

Every time Bill Clement called a game a "tilt", I wanted to punch him in the mouth and tell him to stop it.

Gary Thorne and Bill Clement WERE hockey for me growing up. Living in Chicago, the only Wings games I could watch on TV were the ones on ESPN/ESPN2 or when they were playing the Hawks in Detroit (since at that time, Dollar Bill Wirtz wouldn't put the Hawks home games on TV). So all my memories of great Red Wings games, both regular season and playoffs, have them as the narration.

I hope Thorne comes back. I have always liked Clement and Thorne as a tandem for calling the NHL games. I hope he does it again for Versus or NBC or both for that matter.
