The scene at Hockeytown tonight

Rate this topic

Does anyone know how the outdoor viewing at Hockeytown Cafe works tonight? Would we have to actually stand in line and wait to go into the bar, and then out to the patio, or is it a true "tailgate" where you just find a spot to sit your butt down where you can see the screen? I didn't go to the outdoor viewing on Tuesday, but plan on going down there with friends tonight. I'm just wondering if its worth it, as I won't be able to get there until around 5pm tonight. I heard there were people already lining up there early this morning to claim spots.

Also, does anyone know if we can bring coolers and what not to the outdoor viewing party, or do we have to purchase beverages from Hockeytown?

Thanks, and GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering the same thing. Also, any parking tips in the area would help. Possible to park somewhere else and take people mover? Not sure how close that is to Hockeytown Cafe though.

Grand Circus is probably the closest station, and that let's out near the south/southwest entrance to Comerica. My usual plan is to park at Greektown Casino, and take that station around. However, since they have the trains moving the opposite way now, you'll have to go around most of the downtown area before you get to your stop.

I'm hoping to get a spot on that gravel lot along Woodward just norht of I-75. Harry's is also a good place to park, and enjoy some beverages beforehand. They (usually) have free parking, provided you go inside and buy a few barley pops. http://www.harrysdetroit.com/

I'm going tonight and we're parking at Greektown and walking. We did that on Tuesday, even though we were too late to get in, and it wasn't far at all from the garage.

How does the patio party work? Can you just walk up and set up a chair? I don't want to get there at 5pm tonight and be SOL :) Stupid work, I knew I should have taken the day off...

Get there early

430-500

They have tables out in the lawn area but they also have a lawn area you bring your own seats

The line is long

I don't know if you have to wait in line if you want to go out back on the lawn. We sat in the restaurant and had a guy and his son and girlfriend offer to buy us our food and drinks if they could sit with us. I told him sure and it was a good night.

To be honest, the lawn was PACKED though with lots of people. It was fun being inside the restaurant

I might be leaving work early to go there

My dad was planning to go immediately from work to secure a table for our family since he works close to Detroit. I'm not sure what time he gets out though. But do you think that will give us enough time if he gets there around 5:30 or 6? I can see him leaving earlier than that too since he's a badass at his job and no one will care what he does.

GAME DAY BABY. Gotta do the work thing and then it's off to the Strip to watch the game.

From those pictures, it looks like that screen will be too small if we have to sit/stand anywhere near the back of the patio. Might change directions and head to Old Shillelagh :) Good beer, and a great crowd!

Work is dragging on soooo much today, I want to get this party started!

When this thing is over (win or lose) can someone please post some pictures from from Hockeytown? The whole thing sounds amazing, and since I am far from Detroit I will just be watching the game at my in-laws. I will not get to experience the fun.

I don't know if 5pm is early enough, if you're planning on going to Hockeytown. That place will be nuts. Really though, any bar in metro Detroit will be packed tonight. I can already feel the buzz around here today, and many people took the whole day off here at my office. Gotta love it.

I'll be keeping my black & gold ass at home tonight. If the Pens win, I don't want to be anywhere near a mass of drunk Wings fans.

If a majority of your party isn't there, they won't give you a table.

Is the beer still on Kwame? He can afford a million dollar house, but can't afford to pay the city of Detroit $6,000 in Restitution fees.
