I think one of the better stories in the playoffs this year was Flip's play. I think he and Zetterberg were our best overall players this year in the playoffs. Flip brought it every night and always looked good. I can't wait for his spot on centering the #2 line next year.

I think Filppula is highly underrated because for the most part he doesnt score a lot. When he was centering that line with Hossa, they clicked so well he really came out and scored more/assisted more. I think extending his stay here last year was a great decision.

Filppula has been my favorite Red Wings player the last 2 seasons because of his effort. He may have trouble finishing, but that will come along with time and as he gains more confidence in his shot. For a guy who signed a significant contract extension to be the 2nd line center for the next 5 years, only to have his role changed almost overnight with the signing of Hossa, you never heard him complain, he just went out and battled every night, and don't forget, he set personal bests in scoring for the regular season and the playoffs this year, he just turned 25 and has tons of upside, and I think that short of Zetterberg he was our best forward the entire series. So much was made of teh Zetterberg/Crosby matchup, but he held Malkin, the eventual Conn Smythe winner, to 2 goals (in fact, IIRC both of Malkin's goals were on the PP, so he really held him to 0 ES goals), and was 7th overall in playoff scoring. Not bad for a guy who was the goat for many posters on this board all season. Every great team needs role players, and he has filled his role admirably all year. I can't wait to see what he does with a full season as the center of the #2 line and real minutes on the PP.

Flip played just fine.

Just to refresh people's memories he was one of the most highly accosted and insulted members of the Wings (right behind Ozzie), people declaring he wasn't worth his salary. My ass.

He definitely took a big leap into a legitimate second line center. Him and Franzen should be a good pair for a while

He seemed to get a lot stronger on the puck and really was using his body well.

He has been studying wityh Dats and it shows, but on his own he brings it to the playoffs like he should and others could take a lesson. Oh, and he played injured in last years finals too, but you would have never known it. A very good player and someone we need to keep and get more like.

Flip has ALWAYS been my 2nd favorate player behind Z and I thought he was amazing. He showed a lot of guts and determination and it just seemed that the deeper the playoffs went, Flip rose to the occasion. He is become what detroit thought he would be and its awesome to watch.

Congrats Flip on a stellar playoff- i thought he was one of our best, night in and night out!
