QUOTE (Sid the Kid @ June 13, 2009 - 04:23PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Like it or not, Sidney Crosby is the face of the NHL in the same manner Peyton Manning is the face of the NFL ..... That's just marketing folks ... it is what it is.

Nobody is asking for your approval. I'm sure if the NHL elected to make on of the Wings players the face of the league you all would have no problem with it.

I have watched football for a very, very long time and never have I seen any player be marketed as the face of the NFL. I see commercials during football season with different players...heck I even see commercials featuring fans of different teams much unlike the Center Ice commercial that only featured the Pens fan. I am pretty sure that I could come up with a marketing strategy that could help the NHL and maybe actually make it more popular, but having one player be the so called "face" of the NHL drives fans away. There is a guy that I work with that doesn't watch hockey, but he likes Cindy...how the heck do you figure that happened? It's because Cindy gets shoved down everyone's throat and instead of him helping the sport, he has now become the villain. I for one don't want a "face" of the league, I think there should be many "faces." Pick some veterans and some youngsters and see what happens.

In closing, I just have to say that I know who the better team was...they may not have won, but I am still proud of the team and thankful that we have Lids as Captain!

shame on you sidney. even with a torn MCL, thanks to franzen's cheap shot, you should have raced over to shake the great lidstrom and draper's (lol) hand. after all, the kings of the NHL, the red wings, were waiting.

That was a far cry from a cheap shot and you know it, but by all means, continue to be a troll and a dick.

Your interpretation is pathetic.

So an attempt to play the body to get the puck is now a cheapshot? Seriously, go back to a Ducks board because you are making an absolute fool of yourself right now.

the guy never went for the puck. franzen stick was no where near the puck. his focus was to take sidney out. i'm not the only one who thought the hit was dirty. even a toronto star writer feels the same way. http://www.thestar.c.../article/650549

bottom line was that frazen's hit was illegal, just like pronger's hit to tomas holmstrom in 2007 or niedermayer's elbow to datsyuk this year.

also i really liked how with his TORN MCL he was still able to lift a 40lbs of silver but not shake hands??
your point...... Fail!!!!!!

Had Crosby avoided shaking Lidstrom's hand on purpose, people would have a legitimate gripe. The handshake isn't so much out of respect for the person as it is out of respect for the game and the organization.

But, like I said, I don't think Crosby purposely avoided shaking anybody's hand. If he had, though, that would be HIGHLY disrespectful.

A new Lemieux-McCarty fight, as seen by internet forum posters.

Lemieux cheapshots a player with his walker, drawing the ire of D-Mac, who hobbles over. They draw their canes, salute, and cross them, then proceed to repeatedly whack eachother over the heads while hanging onto the bench with their other hands for balance. D-Mac then hits Lemieux's hip, which gives out, Lemieux feebly falls to the ground, crumpling as D-Mac continues to land barely noticeable Yoda-esque cane strikes. Lemieux's age begins catching up to him, crying "what a world, what a world..!" as he melts into a puddle of goo.

Listen up Red Wing fans. We have it all wrong.

Rules to be used when playing Cindy Crysby:

1) Under NO circumstances are you allowed to touch him or take the puck.
Unless you want to have a penalty called or face the wrath of his whining.

2) When Penguins interfere with every one of your dump-in plays it is good.
When Penguins dump in the puck, and Franzen does them one up by putting a legal hip-check on Crysby (who tried to jump over him??) It's a cheap shot! yea!

3) When lining up for hand-shakes, you must search out Cindy Crysby in all his glory and beg for him to shake your hand. He is in no way obligated to shake your hand, after-all you are all inferior.

Damien Cox thinks the hit was illegal guys. We should give up our argument. After all, Cox does an excellent job of describing why the hit was illegal. Oh wait... Saying Crosby never had the puck is a flat out lie because he did have the puck and had literally just moved it forward before Mule hit him. You can hit a player who doesn't have the puck, so long as the timing is correct. What's your next horrible argument?

You have some balls coming onto a Wings site and calling what Mule did "dirty". Seriously? Who ended the Ducks season again? Oh, that's right...the Wings did. Stop making yourself look like more and more of a dick, and go back to your Ducks board.

Don't other fan-specific sites exist where these so called pens' fans can go? The trolling is getting obnoxious and ridiculous. You are never going to win the argument. You wanna know why? Because this is a Red Wing fan site. If you want to provide intellectual posts, please do. It leaves me wondering how many of these trolls would be here had the pens not won. Sore winners come across as arrogant and pathetic.

maybe we didn't win but we took you down with us. we hit you so hard you didn't have the legs to skate in the SCF. and you can keep talking about beating us off a cheap dan clearly goal. i'd rather lose early than in the SCF by one goal in what will likely be a devastating loss that the wings just won't be able to shake off.

We're talking about the same Detroit Red Wings, right?

His "focus" was to keep Sid from taking the puck, so he put his body in front of him as he attempted to get the puck. Sidney held him up so Franzen had to leave it for Rafalski.

Hmmm. After you, we dispatched Chicago easily. Are you really taking credit for soemthing that happened 3 weeks after you got bounced from the playoffs?

No. But is he so terribly classless because it didn't occur to him while on pain killers during the greatest moment of his life? I understand the frustration, but I thought your fans were better than all this whining.

It wasn't dirty, but it's a clear interference. He has every right to hold Sid up because Sid nicked the puck with his stick. But he's NOT allowed to go out of his way to do it, which he blatantly did. It wasn't anything more than they were getting away with all series though.

Considering this is the first time it has happened, it is hard to cut him slack on the issue.

However it is horrible of people to start asking for interviews before the handshakes to begin with.

Franzen would have gotten the puck if Crosby didn't grab him. That play happens in the regular season, playoffs, all the time. It was not any kind of interference call. Not clear, not obvious, not anything.

If anyone should have gotten a penalty it should have been Crosby for holding.

uum ok. franzen made NO effort whatsover after the hit to get the puck. in fact if anything he slowed up and prevented crosby from getting it. and crosby wasn't holding onto anything. his arm just happened to be on franzen's shoulder but in no way was it preventing franzen from going after the puck. franzen is a big 6'3 guy and crosby is only 5'11. you're telling me that a smaller guy like crosby who is obviously in serious pain at that moment was strong i enough or summoned the will to hold a much bigger johan franzen up? that's a brainless comment.
