tdinc 45 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 Lapierre, Neil and Bouwmeester, or Madden would be fine with me any one of these guys. Madden would be a perfect Power forward with Mule
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 (edited) To me, them most logical choice would be Dandenault. His talent isn't gone yet and he's still got a fire. Neil, he'd be a nice touch, but unlikely. Bouwmeester and Beachemin won't happen. Our defense is fine and we have no use for another big defensive name. It would just demote Kronwall or Stuart who would then be making too much money for 3rd stringers. Madden doesn't seem to be much better than a Draper from what they say on that website, past his prime apparently. Lappy, according to Colorado fans, has fallen off the map and really isn't good for anything except a few fights here and there. We already have a useless hockey player who can fight (Downey). No goalies, so Legace is out, and we really won't run a second risk with an injury prone, aging player who will make up too much cap space (Bertuzzi) and who doesn't have speed. I'm not even sure if he's gritty anymore. My vote goes for Fedorov (haha, someone had to say it, but it would be neat if it was pulled off) or Dandenault for re-runs. But as far as new people, I don't see anyone out there I really want, so I trust in Kenny. Oh, forgot Pahlsson. Would be a nice touch but it's so unlikely it's not even worth thinking about. CAredwingsfan91 28 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 Yes: Chad LaRose Ian Laperriere Jay Bouwmeester Francois Beauchmenin John Madden Chris Neil No: Samuel Pahlsson Mathieu Dandenault Manny Legace Todd Bertuzzi P.J. Axelsson always liked madden maybe Rafalski can pull some strings with him and get him to join us? GIT IT DONE RAFI! Beacuhmenim has really stepped his game up since he got out of that horrible columbus team signing him would be absolutely incredible especially with lilja possibly done for a while he would fit in nicely with our defense but I think we need to do something with Lebda we need to replace him with someone tougher and faster. Lilja (healthy) and Beauchmenin on the pk? imagine this 4th line Neil - Helm - Lappy (darth kader every now and then) seriously you other 29 nhl teams try getting out alive they would bang bodies around and FINALLY put some excitement back in the Joe. (watch every game on tv it sounds dead but i heard its the way the mic everything up) still that would be a GREAT line. Gonna have to dissagree with you on Pahlsson hes a great shut down center I know hes not a great goal scorer and hes never had a 30 point season and hes kind of fell off the map the past 2 years but detroit usually likes those kinda guys right? (cleary, samuelsson) you know those guys our GM's like to give a "second chance" at playing. make no mistake though a lot of other teams will be throwing money at him. we all would obviously love to be GM for a day for our wings I personally would pass on Hossa (or at least trade him if we can), samuelsson, kopecky, mccarty, howard (really has he impressed like he was supposed to?). resign Conklin he saved all of our/their asses especially Osgood's this season if ANYONE deserves a new contract from us its Conklin. resign Hudler before Lowe throws some bogus offer sheet at him hahaha, i dont think hes worth over 3.0 mil dont we have something like 10 million next year to spend?? maybe i was just dreaming that. Ok JUST SAYING... Cleary - Datsyuk - Homer Fippula - Zetterberg - Franzen Leino(Mr. no more AHL for me) - Madden - Hudler Neil - Helm - Lappy scratches - Maltby, Draper. hurtingwingsfan 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 you know by saying that, Holland will now sign him. It just always seems to work that way. But honestly, I think it will either be Conklin as backup (if he decides to stay) or Jimmy. Jimmy is probably the cheapest option...not that I am at all keen on him. soonboomer 31 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 I say there will be no significant free agent pick-ups this summer......Holland will try to lowball the Hossa deal, if that works (probably not), then Sammy and Hudler won't be back.....may try to get Holmstrom and/or Maltby to retire and bring up the Grand Rapids guys to fill the slots as needed......if no Hossa, then the line-up will change even less......Holland will probably wait until the trade deadline early next year to fill any pending needs. I predict an uneventfull next couple of weeks for the Wings (which is fine by me because, when healthy, Detroit is still the team to beat). All you guys calling for the annual "we need more grit" will probably be disappointed.

FedorovMan91 1 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 Almost all of these options are either 1) unrealistic, as the Wings don't have the salary to give, or 2) Stupid. Perfect comment. We don't have the cap room to sign these players. If Hossa does not re-sign, which most likely to happen, Hudler, and Leino have to make contracts. The only thing I am looking for is getting rid of Samuelsson and get another player to replace him.

All you guys calling for the annual "we need more grit" will probably be disappointed. The same lineup minus Hossa will have the season end earlier than this season, calling up a couple AHL 'ers full time I do not think makes up for the regular season goal leader on the team. Also I am not on board with Leino just yet, great goal against the caps, but have not seen enough from him yet to be on board, he needs a monster season if he gets a full time spot since he is not willing to play in the AHL another year. I would not mind if they signed Manny to a cheap 2 way deal, just to have him to call up, especially if Conks walks... have seen Howard many times and not overly impressed. Ozzy was great in the playoff's but was horrid in reg season, goalie is shaky and if anything else Manny has at least played in the NHL and knows the team. Since Ozzy has 1 year left and we only have prospects at the position, it would be great to have Conks around if at all possible. I would have liked to see what the guy could have done with the #1 role where he knew it was his to loose... maybe that's just me. Sammy will get an offer regardless of what we do with Hossa that the Wings probably should not match unless they can justify putting him on the 2nd line which I just do not see, simular situation with Hudler... would it be nice to keep them sure, but not at what the market will likely offer them, so unlike many other I do not see it as soley a Hossa or Sammy/Huds situation, I think they will be offered more than sense dictates on this team to pay. Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 George James Malik covers it nicely so check out his sensible take. http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/06/ap...reeagent_t.html Appealing grinding free-agent targets for Red Wings may be more expensive than they appear Posted by George James Malik June 21, 2009 05:53AM The Detroit Free Press posted a gallery of ten unrestricted free agent forwards of the third-and-fourth-line variety which the Red Wings may target, especially assuming that the $4 million of cap space the Wings have won't allow them to re-sign Jiri Hudler, Mikael Samuelsson, or Marian Hossa (thus, necessitating a little more grit)... But the problem involving almost every player listed is simple: they've had the kinds of seasons which merit $2-3 million salaries for grinding players in early July. Examples? Sure, let's run down the list. The Free Press makes excellent arguments as to why the Wings may target said players, so here's the "by the numbers" version, with the salaries listed reflecting the players' 2008-2009 earnings: Chad LaRose, Carolina Hurricanes. 27 years old, posted 31 points in 79 games while racking up all of 35 penalty minutes, and earned $750,000. LaRose is the kind of player who could get "Dan Cleary money" ($2.5 million plus) from an interested buyer. Ian Laperriere, Colorado Avalanche. 35, posted 19 points in 74 games (with 163 penalty minutes), earned $1.15 million. Someone may very well toss $2 million at him. Chris Neil, Ottawa Senators. 30, posted 10 points in 70 games for Ottawa (with 146 penalty minutes), earned $1.2 million. Looking for more than $2.5 million. Samuel Pahlsson, Chicago Blackhawks. 31, posted 18 points in 65 games and earned $1.4 million...Okay, this one makes some sense. Pahlsson had an up-and-down season split between Anaheim and Chicago, he's never posted more than 26 points, and somebody might throw $2 million at him, but he's a 3rd-liner. Jay Bouwmeester, Florida Panthers. Not a forward (defenseman), 25, posted 42 points in 82 games, and earned $4.875 million. Even in a flat-capped NHL, someone will toss $6-8 million at him over the course of a long-term deal. Dream on. John Madden, New Jersey Devils. 36, posted 23 points in 76 games, earned $2.938 million, posted 20 goals and 43 points the previous season. See: "Dan Cleary money," short-term contract version. P.J. Axelsson, Boston Bruins. 34, posted 30 points in 75 games, earned $1.85 million. Won't take a pay cut. Francois Beauchemin, Anaheim Ducks. 29, posted 5 points in an injury-shortened 20-game season, earned $1.650 million. Someone will toss $4-5 million at him if the Ducks don't first. Mathieu Dandeneault, Montreal Canadiens. 33, posted 12 points playing both forward and defense in an injury-shortened 21-game season, earned $1.75 million. Won't take a pay cut. Manny Legace, St. Louis Blues. Goaltender, 36. Earned 13 wins in 29 appearances before clearing waivers and heading to the AHL's Peoria RIvermen. Um, no. Todd Bertuzzi, Calgary Flames. 34, posted 44 points in 66 games, earned $1.95 million. Do you want to pay $2 million for Todd Bertuzzi? I've heard names like Atlanta's Colby Armstrong mentioned, and thought about the Wings going after Petr Sykora personally (so I made that one up myself, and don't buy it, he made $2.5 million and posted 46 points in 72 games, so somebody will give him $3-3.5 million for that kind of performance), but...
