When in doubt, appeal.

From TSN:

An Ontario court has found that the National Hockey League has been underfunding its players' pension plans by millions of dollars, shortchanging widows over a number of decades.

The decision by Ontario Superior Court means the league will have to top up its pension fund by as much as $30 million and may have to make retroactive payments to the widows of deceased players.

The suit, brought forward last year by the NHL Players' Association, charged that errors in the calculation of pensions for players who died before 1986 meant their widows received as little as 10 per cent of the funds entitled to them.

NHLPA executive director Paul Kelly said the union was happy about the decision but hasn't had enough time to completely digest it.

It's not like this is first time the League has had problems with money for the players' pension; from New York Times:

The National Hockey League lost a lawsuit for more than $22 million in pension money today. Justice George Adams of the Ontario Court General Division ruled in favor of seven retired N.H.L. stars who said the league, clubs and N.H.L. Pension Society wrongfully took $20 million in 1980 and $2 million in 1982 from money that should have gone toward their pensions.

Where I used to work, I would meet Mr. and Mrs. Ted Kennedy, the former Maple Leaf great. I saw him just after this story broke and I congratulated him on his recent "raise". He thanked me and said that every little bit helps.

Maybe Obama should take that over too.

Yeah, because sitting around while the world economy collapses is a better move. God forbid the leader of your country try to save your own economy by the means most likely to succeed (something that is not arguable- it's worked in Europe and is widely considered the most feasible solution by economists as a community).

Let the republithugs whine and gnash their teeth- they caused this mess by hacking away at regulation and removing the safety net designed to prevent that s***, they deserve zero input in how to fix the mess they created.

Try not to be so Democratic.

This mess was not created by republicans nor democrats. It was created by a whole lot of greedy people in positions of power (republicans and democrats included).

Thank God for the voice of reason..... It’s eluded us for so long!

Wouldn't it be great if LGW had a place where members could discuss Obama, "republithugs", greed, the economy, and pretty much all things politics?

Please keep the discussion to the topic at hand, namely, the NHLPA's lawsuit regarding pensions.
