YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted June 25, 2009 Follow these Rules. I want to see what people do if this ends up being the scenario. 1. Hudler is gone, via trade or offer-sheet 2. Hossa leaves for free agency, and doesn't return 3. Draper, Maltby, and Homer will not be traded. 4. Helm is on the team. Abdelkader is not. 5. Howard is back-up. End of story. 6. Lilja goes on LTIR. 7. Go with an even cap number of $57M (a 300k improvement). 8. Keep in mind you need to budget for a 13th forward and a 7th Dman. Datsyuk (6.7) Zetterberg (6.08) Franzen (3.95) Cleary (2.8) NTC Holmstrom (2.25) Filppula (3) Maltby (.88) Helm (.59) Draper (1.58) NTC Kronwall (3) Lidstrom (7.45) Rafalski (6) NTC Lebda (.65) Meech (.48) Stuart (3.75) NTC Lilja (1.25 - salary exempt) Ericsson (.9) Osgood (1.4) Howard (.71) Total: $52.17M (4.83M in space)

I'd rather see Downey play 2 minutes a game, give some extra shifts to guys like Helm and Leino, and call it a day then suffer through 8 minutes a night of Kopecky. And I'm not even a Downey fan. Well, I have no real preference, but it seems Babcock would rather play Kopecky then Downey. I wouldn't mind seeing Downey at all. I just overlooked Downey more than anything. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted June 25, 2009 One key problem with the premise of this thread: No way in hell (yes, I'll say it again, No way in hell) we lose Hudler AND Hossa. Either we find a miracle way to keep both or one of them is gone and the other stays. There is absolutely no way Holland let's both walk and ends up behind the 8 ball. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted June 25, 2009 (edited) "A" gritty forward? That's nine forwards listed there, people. It's gonna take more than Mike Knuble or Chad LaRose to reach a team you can put on the ice, unless of course you are Mike Keenan. Chad LaRose is a great addition for the price and the grit he provides. He's good for a few goals too. I like that call Wasabi. Don't forget that Leino's going to be in too. So we've got one more spot open. Let's say LaRose gets 1.2 million and Leino gets 1 million. Meech is traded off for whatever we can get in picks or 'project' prospect (something that's suited to the Wings given how long they season their prospects). So we've got 3.1 million left over. In that case we don't dump Hudler at all and sign him to a deal just like Filppula's. I'd say he'd be happy with the equivalent deal to Val. But you're being difficult and making me follow rules here... So sign Pahlsson to a 3 year deal at 2.4 million a season. Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Cleary Franzen-Filppula-Leino Pahlsson-Helm-Holmstrom Maltby-Draper-LaRose Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Ericsson-Lebda Osgood Howard LTR: Lilja And we're carrying 700,000 in fun bucks. Now the problem is that we'd have to dump Lebda before bringing Lilja back into the line-up. And of course, once Lilja is in there's not enough cap space for an injury call-up. I'm conflicted here. Let me rethink it. Edited June 25, 2009 by Drake_Marcus

Using your scenario, here's what I came up with: Re-sign Downey to a two-way deal for 500k Re-sign Ville Leino for 1 million, he gets a permanent roster spot Sign Joel Ward from Nashville for 750k cap hit Trade Meech and draft picks/prospects to Tampa Bay for Evgeny Artyukhin (1 year left on his contract at 950k) Here's the numbers: Forwards Datsyuk 6,700,000 Zetterberg 6,083,333 Franzen 3,954,545 Filppula 3,000,000 Cleary 2,800,000 Holmstrom 2,250,000 Draper 1,583,333 Leino 1,000,000 Artyukhin 950,000 Maltby 883,333 Ward 750,000 Helm 599,444 Defensemen Lidstrom 7,450,000 Rafalski 6,000,000 Stuart 3,750,000 Kronwall 3,000,000 Lilja* 1,250,000 Ericsson 900,000 Lebda 650,000 Goalies Osgood 1,416,666 Howard 716,666 Roster Size 21 Salary Cap $56,700,000 Payroll $55,687,320 Cap Room $1,012,680 *if Lilja does go on LTIR, then call up Kindl to be the 7th defenseman. Here's what my lines look like: Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Cleary Leino/Filppula/Franzen Artyukhin/Helm/Ward Maltby/Draper/Holmstrom Lidstrom/Rafalski Kronwall/Stuart Ericsson/Lilja Lebda With this lineup, we get a black guy to shoot the knuclepuck for soultrain (I tried a scenario where we re-sign Hudler and add either Neil or Laperierre, and the only way I could make it work was to sign Hudler at 2 million and Laperierre at 1.4 million, but I had to cut Leino loose.)
