Hossa wants 6million a year

Where else can Hossa go? What are his options in terms of best situation to win and get fair compensation?
Washington could make him a nice offer if they can find a trade for Theodore. Vancouver could easily afford him as well...

Vancouver has enough problems trying to re-sign the Sedin Twins, Luongo, and Sundin.

If they want both of the twins and Sedin decides to return. I don't think Vancouver is going to offer Sedin nearly as much money this time around and the Sedin twins at 6M apiece is a steep price as well.

2009-2010 Detroit Red Wings

FORWARDS

Pavel Datsyuk $6,700,000

Henrik Zetterberg $6,083,333

Johan Franzen $3,954,545

Valtteri Filppula $3,000,000

Daniel Cleary $2,800,000

Tomas Holmstrom $2,250,000

Kris Draper $1,583,333

Ville Leino $950,000

Kirk Maltby $883,333

Justin Abdelkader $850,000

Darren Helm $599,444

DEFENSEMEN

Nicklas Lidstrom $7,450,000

Brian Rafalaski $6,000,000

Brad Stuart $3,750,000

Niklas Kronwall $3,000,000

Andreas Lilja $1,250,000

Jonathan Ericsson $900,000

Brett Lebda $650,000

Derek Meech $483,333

GOALTENDERS

Chris Osgood $1,416,666

Jimmy Howard $716,666

...this is the roster (after bringing up Helm/Howard) if we assume Lilja can play, giving Leino a modest raise to $950,000 and bringing up Abdelkader and using Meech primarily as the 13th forward/extra Defensman.

This officially (according to capgeek) leaves us $1,529,347 to round out our 4 lines with someone. This automatically removes Hudler from our roster since he is going to get more than $1.5m, same with Sammy. It also reflects losing all of our UFA's. WIth Kopecky's agent saying he is testing the market, we may as well say goodbye to him. So who would come here and who would you offer $1m to $1.5m to?

*-Notice this also reflects Lebda as the 7th defensman, so we are covered for a short term injury if a forward or D-man goes down. Meech/Lebda

Chicago isn't out of the question either.

Possible but I don't think Chicago is capable of adding a long term big money contract with the Campbell albatross and both Kane and Toews needing to be re-signed after next year. There are about 7-8 teams or so who can afford him without making major moves and probably another 5 that would dump salary to get him.

Phoenix, L.A., Minnesota, Montreal, Dallas, Florida and Buffalo all have room but the question was best chance of winning...

Dallas would be interesting. Hossa and Morrow were teammates and roommates with the Portland Winter Hawks the year they won the Memorial Cup.

Here's a good deal for Hossa. If he retires at 35, it's almost $6m average. If he keeps on after, it's a bit less. If he retires at 34, it's $6m average. Overall cap hit? $3.75m.

09-10: $8

10-11: $6.5

11-12: $6.5

12-13: $5

13-14: $2.5

14-15: $1

15-16: $1

16-17: $1

Retire at 35? Are you serious? Why would he retire at 35. Who else retired at 35?

Chicago isn't out of the question either.

Chicago has roughly $15M available under the Cap. They need to sign 5 forwards, 3 defensmen and a goalie. Don't think they are going to use $6 to sign Hossa. Besides $6M is a Detroit discount, hes worth WAY more on the market, so is Chicago going to get into a bidding war and sign him for $8M? Especially with the two kids needing contracts next season? Doubt it...

If the Wings sign Hossa to a 10 year 40 million dollar contract they need 2 forwards signed at negative one million dollars. If they sign him to the 6 million he wants then they need two forwards at negative three million dollars, which means they need to trade 2 players and not just 1.

IF Hossa is coming back it will be at no more then 5 million.

That being said I think Hossa is gone... but:

Leino-Datsyuk-Homer

Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary

Hudler-Filppula-Helm

Maltby-Draper-Some cheap Signing

isn't bad up front.

Leino on the first line? Oh for f***'s sake where did you come up with that?

I'd like to know if he's gonna stay in Detroit or not, before I start thinking about where else he will go. I want Hossa here in Detroit and I think we can do it if he is willing to take less money. I know he's a great player and I think he fits in well here with the Red Wings but he has to be willing to lower his price.

After all he's on a team that has great players like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Lidstrom, Rafalski so it's not like he is going to be the main star here in Detroit. It would be different if we were looking for one big star to build on but this team is stacked so he needs to learn that quick decide what he wants more $$$$ or a Stanley Cup Championship Ring.

I tell you one thing if I'm going to remember a player I'm going to remember Championships before I remember big dollars.

Could Columbus make a play for Hossa? They have 17m in cap space and they want someone to team with Nash.

Sure - so could Nashville or New Jersey or all the teams listed in previos posts. If he hits the open market he is going to have no shortage of suitors. It all depends on where he wants to go and only he knows that.

Exactly. My thinking is that there is no other organization out there that can provide the intangibles that make the Red Wings a great organization.

Leino on the first line? Oh for f***'s sake where did you come up with that?

I came up with that because I think that I would rather have him play with Datsyuk then Filppula because that would make the third line be

Hudler-Helm-Leino

I am more comfortable with Hudler-Filppula-Helm and also feel Leino would make a good linemate for Datsyuk...

I came up with it in terms of wanting to continue to have 3 balanced scoring lines like we did this year...

In your language that the f***s sake that I came up with it...

I didn't pull it out of my ass in case you were wondering.

If we play the psychological game, if Hossa really wants 6 mill a year, either he or Holland or both are going to have to find a way to save face, to compromise so that both parties look "good".

I have no idea where else he would go because like others here have said who can offer him the same kinds of perks that the Wings can? However, right now I don't see him staying in Detroit. But then I'm not Kenny Holland. And we can all be grateful for that. :P

Stuff...

And he's actually making money because there are still people stupid enough to believe him.

...Stuff

This was the point of my post. Since he gets some things right, people keep coming back to him. He knows this and capitalizes on this. You want to say he has serious mental issues then so be it, but I see an entrepreneur who sells a product that people just eat up.

I think he's complete garbage, but the guy is good at what he does, there is no denying that.

And even if he does have mental issues, there is no need to dis him for that. look at Rain Man, he bankrupted a Casino and he was a ratard!
