Report: Hossa turns down Wings' offer

I didn't like Hossa before he came to Detroit. I had nothing against him, although I knew he was talented. I just didn't go OOOOH Hossa.

I have now become a fan and I wish him well. May he have good health and happiness. Peace, Hossa.

also about Hossa, it's not a total shocker. I didn't expect him to stay when he signed here a year ago. But I don't want to give up too much to keep him. I can't blame him for turning down 4mil a year, if he actually has since sportsnet is the only place so far, when he knows he can get more than that. I wish him well...in the East please....

Everyone assumes Hudler is going to get an offer sheet. If he does get one and its around 2.5mil I think the Wings try to make it work at that, anything over that you start getting into some pretty big compensation coming back the Wings way and I don't see teams giving up that much for Jiri Hudler. If it's 2.6 to 3.9 the Wings get a 1st and a 3rd back. I don't see a team doing that. If they want to go ahead I'll take it.

This will offend some Hudler lovers, but I'm entitled to my opinion. :)

2.5 million for a guy that can only play 13 minutes a game due to his defensive deficincies is too much. Add in the fact that he does not have much speed, is very small, and is a power play specialist and it becomes clear that he should not get a huge raise. Especially when you add in the fact that Leino will be playing on the Wings anyways.

If he stays, fine, as long as it's not at a huge raise, and if he goes, fine, Holland could use the cap space.

you could put cheaper player (why Franzen was signed) on Datsyuk's wing and they would probably score more than 30, if not 40 goals, so yeah, Hossa was good, but he also had very good playmakers with him

Well, it was a fun season and it's to bad we couldn't get him to come back but, in reality in the new salary cap world; if Hossa is the price of keeping Zetterberg and Franzen- then so be it.

After reading Holland's interview on Mlive it just seems bizzarre that he hasn't spoken with Ritch Winter about a deal. I know we don't have much money to throw at him but we can move some guys to scrounge up a little change. I'm thinking that we need to get a Camalleri type player to add a threat to fill the hole that Hossa and Samuellson will leave.

This team will be in such a good position in 3-4 years time. Lidstrom retiring will be a kick to the sack, but with his and Rafalski's salary gone we will be well under the cap to bring in a replacement. Perhaps this will be the time when we invest more than $1.15 in a goalie and can play a more aggressive style. Who knows.

With 3-4 roster spots in need of filling it wouldn't be wise to move even more players to make room for only one.

I'm thinking that we need to get a Camalleri type player to add a threat to fill the hole that Hossa and Samuellson will leave.

The Wings don't have any kind of cap space for that. They won't be making any significant additions this off-season.

Ummm where is this money coming from?

If we could afford to sign a Camalleri type player, we could afford to re-sign Hossa.

maybe it's just me but this doesn't bother me. best of luck to hossa though

It doesn't bother me that much either. But like I said before I never expected him to stay because of the cap so maybe that is why I'm not bothered.

I'm kind of surprised he's leaving. I mean, he came here wanting to win a Cup, comes within one game of doing that and then gives up. If you want to win the Cup, why give up when you're so close? He hasn't signed with another team yet, but I'm guessing the team that does sign him, won't have as good a chance of winning it as the Wings. If he takes a big contract with a team like the Kings, then good for him, but I never figured him to be a quitter.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Hossa is ignoring other teams' offers and still considering Detroit's, and ends up staying?

i've wondered this too, i mean he'd be looking at some crappy teams for sure, and depending on how he feels (whether he still wants a chance or a check)..

but i put this very, very remote
