Pahlsson goes to Columbus

Wow, not sure.. but that seems a bit pricey. Though Columbus did just get better.

Pahlsson is great defensively, but if he hits 20 points, its a good year for him. This is a big time overpayment.

Paying for the name with this one.

So instead of a sweep the series could go 5 games?

They were clearly not ready for the playoffs last year and didn't really start playing until Game 4.

During the regular season they were a ***** to play against. Good defensively, great goaltending, RICK NASH a.k.a "always scores a hat-trick against the Wings".

This is a good pick-up for them. A veteran guy who has been through the playoffs before and knows how to win.

Overpayment? Yes a little bit. But he can shut down the other team's star-players, and we all know how valuable that is.

No, I think they NEEDED to get Pahlsson even for this price. Scoring players can slump, I find guys making their names on faceoffs and defense first don't slump in those categories. Hard workers tend to be hard workers defense wise.

Columbus eeked into the playoffs, and they CANNOT afford a backslide. They play all those division games vs guys like Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, Hossa still, Kane, Toews, Backes, Boyes, Arnott and Legwand they NEED a stopper somewhere. Peca just isn't that guy anymore.

Damn....a bit bummed about this, but as others has said, this contract is a bit too heavy for the Wings and I'm sure Holland made a call and an offer, but it didn't work out. 2.65 for Pahlsson is a good deal for him, but I'm glad Kenny didn't bite.

I know this signing won't make or break a team, but the central division got better last year and there getting better this year. All 5 teams could make the playoffs this season....

True, but I imagine it's tough to attract FA to Columbus.

There are always reasons to overpay UFAs. I'm stating that hes overpaid more in a "theres no way hes worth that much to the Wings" sense.

This rarely happens, if ever. I do agree that the central division is becoming much more competitive (now argueably the strongest division in the league) and teams like Chicago will give us a run for our money as the reigning division champions.

The central is certainly shaping up to be the toughest division, but who knows. By all rights the pacific should have been the toughest last season, but Dallas flamed out and the Ducks didn't start playing until February, as is now their tradition.

We'll see if Columbus and St Louis can continue to build on what they've got and not take a step backwards. If so, the Wings are in for a long season and I'm going to go out of my way to watch every central div game I can.

I think the Preds will remain also-rans. Hard to say for sure with that team, but I just don't see them gelling for more than a 2-week spurt here or there. I don't know if it's a lack of morale or leadership or what, but they can't seem to string together a month's worth of solid effort. Which I'm fine with.

Considering Trashville had 2 losses to Colorado, one to Tampa and at least one to Atlanta, it isn't as far-fetched as you think

If they just go .500 in those 4 games, they make the playoffs and Anaheim doesn't.

That's how close it came to happening THIS past year.
