Hudler files for arbitration

So the question is if Lilja is on LTIR to start the season can Ericsson be on the opening day roster or does he officially have to start the season on the AHL roster then be brought up to satisfy cap compliance on opening day?

I believe, if Lilja starts the season on LTIR, then Ericsson can start the season on the Wings' roster and would not need to be called up.

You guys do know that this is standard procedure in these situations, right? Filppula did the exact same thing.

Is it possible to sign and trade under the CBA?

My hope is that they re-sign him. But if he asks for too much then maybe they can trade him for someone. Yes I know that the cap hit will be the same but the Wings are going to trade one defenseman anyways.

We can trade him after arbitration at that contract. We can even trade him now but no one would take it.

Oh Hudler.....instead of waiting for you to make a decision....

This is making me exahusted, I wish I could have LGW on my phone so I could just get an update for when he makes a decision! Geesh........

:P

That's all...sorry for the stupid post...but I wanted to write something that had nothing to do with anything.......

.hope it makes someone laugh....if not...oh well........

Finally, some good news: Jiri Hudler officially files for arbitration with Red Wings

Posted by George James Malik July 05, 2009 23:35PM

Red Wings forward Jiri Hudler and the team are officially headed for arbitration, as noted by the Canadian Press:

July 5, Canadian Press: New York Rangers winger Nikolai Zherdev and forward Jiri Hudler of the Detroit Red Wings are among 20 players who have elected salary arbitration, the NHL Players' Association announced Sunday night. ... Hudler had 57 point last season (23 goals, 34 assists) with four goals eight assists coming in the post-season, including three assists in Detroit's Stanley Cup final series with Pittsburgh. Hudler made $1.15 million last season. ... Arbitration hearings will be held in Toronto from July 20 to Aug. 4.

As the Detroit News's Ted Kulfan notes, this prevents Hudler from receiving an offer sheet from another team. MLive.com's own Ansar Khan confirms as well.

A player can only take his team to arbitration once, and vice versa, so the Wings will push for a deal with Hudler as he's done them a bit of a favor. If the teams can't come to an agreement, the arbitrator will award a one or two-year contract, with the Wings having the option to walk away from the award or work out a sign-and-trade option. In the event of a $3.5 million-plus offer, they'd pursue the latter as they can exceed the salary cap by up to 10% ($5.68 million) during the off-season.

So when is "off-season" officially over and if Holland opts for the "sign & trade" deal...doesn't that give him a bit more time then "rushing" into a roster.....???????

Yes you can. Basically, if Hudler is awarded an offer too large the Wings have two options:

1. take it, go over the cap (you can go up to 63.4 million before October), then trade him or someone else to accommodate him.

2. don't sign him and let him become a UFA.

If it came down to deciding between Hudler and Filppula, I take Hudler.

Should be able to keep both, however.

What I do not want to happen is for Holland to get nothing out of this.

Either sign Hudler and trade him -- with Hudler's blessing.

Or trade Filppula for a decent return.

Really are you sure that is not Flip, seeing as Huds is very very rarely a center on the Wings.

Maybe before you try to make fun of the rest of the forum you should have your s*** together.

BTW he was the 5th highest scoring forward on the team in the regular season (PTS and G, assists he was 4th, unfortunately his +/- was 7th though).

But don't let a little thing like his stats get in your way of evaluating his talent!

Must of been all of that ice time on the PP right, oh wait no one needs PP scoring, you are right he is a waste>

Or what was it you meant my the rotflmao icon?

Ooops!

The Wings just lost a 40 goal scorer and a 20 goal scorer

The current team is chock-full of defensive forwards, as well as the pipeline

Hudler has been a part of the organization longer than Filppula

An offensive specialist is exactly what this team needs

Franzen - Hudler - Hossa would have been awesome, I am convinced of it.

As long as Hudler is centering two defensively responsible players with decent speed, I would not be overtly concerned.

Traditionally - isn't it the center's responsibility to have more of a defensive awareness vs his wingers?

Yes -- although in Detroit it has frequently been the left winger as well.

Because, you know, having the second line center be a ridiculously good playmaker with great stickhandling and a good shot would be SUCH a bad idea. I mean, we'd better instead put a defensive specialist who is an ok passer with decent hands, not a very good shooter, and can skate well because he's signed for a couple more years.

If we're gonna have someone setting up Franzen on the second line with Dats and Z on the first, Hudler is the best choice because he can actually SET PEOPLE UP. Do you not want the Wings to score goals this season?

UNless he signs for $1.5 or less, it aint gonna happen. I can see them trading Meech or LEbda, but that still only leaves $2.9 ($2.7 if Meech is traded) million with only 10 forward signed. Giving Hudler $1.5 that only leaves $1.4M or $1.6M to sign two more forwards to complete your 4 lines and a 13th forward...

Of course if you give more to Hudler then we won't be able to complete our lines unless Lilja comes off the books...

If Liljais off the books we have $3.7M, if Huds gets $2.5 thats only $1.2 to get two more fwds. (even if one of those is Abby or Ouhelan, it is gonna be tight tryng to fill out 13 fwds...

I really Hope Hudler takes a discount and signs for $1.5... If he shows his dedication and devotion to this team now, when his next contract is due, he will be rewarded. Holland and the Ilitch's NEVER forget loyalty...

ok, here's what I did. I traded Lebda (because he makes more than Meech,) left Abby in GRR, factored Lilja to be healthy, signed Joe UFA for $1.1M and did a similar contract term to Ryan Oulahen as Leino (less money more years guaranteed Detroit time(only because he is out of options and makes less than Abby.)) I could give Hudler $1.5m and it only leaves $104,000 in cap space. We can always opt out on the Joe UFA and give Hudler more, but that only makes 12 forwards, so you'll have Meech subbing for "D" and "O." That is doable, but risky, especially if you get an injury on "D" and "O" at the same time...

I guess he can sign Hudler AND Joe UFA go over the cap and deal with it in camp...
