HawksFan4Life 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 I heard Sundin is retiring also. So we now know 2 members of the Hockey Hall of Fame class of 2012.

LeftWinger 4,958 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 (edited) One of the best leaders in the game! Professional to the nth degree, not like: ..its too bad we are losing leaders like Messier, Yzerman, Sakic and soon Lidstrom and gaining garbage like Cindy. Do you think his dad taught him to act like that on the ice? Edited July 7, 2009 by LeftWinger
bonan78 1 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Not surprised, as many injuries as he's had. It's the end of an era for that franchise, he was an amazing player, always had a grudging respect for him despite the rivalry, and I wish him well. Now, I wonder who will be the next captain of the 'Lanche?

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Here's a guy that scored 100 points in the NHL at 38. Outstanding talent, great leader, he'll be missed for sure.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 I think even Mario shakes his head when he does things like that! I saw your post before you edited. You didn't have the picture up yet but I knew it was going to be one of whiny face. Mario probably isn't shaking his head all that much. He had to do his fair share of embellishment and complaining in order to get the calls.
miller76 463 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Now, I wonder who will be the next captain of the 'Lanche? I am guessing Stastny is next in line for the C there. If not him, then maybe Hejduk.
Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Here's to a great career. First ballot HOF, without a doubt. One of the players on the Avs during the rivalry that I not only respected, but actually really liked. That said. This thread is about Joe Sakic, not Sidney Crosby. Let's keep it on track. Professional to the nth degree, not like: ..its too bad we are losing leaders like Messier, Yzerman, Sakic and soon Lidstrom and gaining garbage like Cindy. wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 This is too bad.. Always loved Burnaby Joe. Class act, he was my second fav player next to Stevie Y of course
titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Seeing as how he lifted the cup in June, I don't think he or Mario care that much about he acts. I guess that's the point. What's the honor in being a champion if an idiot wins one?
Gizmo 21 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 (edited) kinda a shame he went out the way he did... I agreed with others that he was a decent guy... Edited July 7, 2009 by Gizmo
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Even with the rivalry I don't know how anyone could hate Sakic aside from the stereotypical "I hate everything Avalanche related" comments. Hell of a player and a stand-up guy!
egroen 384 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Always wanted to hate Sakic and never could. Extremely clutch player with a wicked shot and very good two-way play as well. Would have been a great Red Wing!
evilmrt 636 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Wow, what a shame! He was a great player, a classic, a professional, up there with the greats. We knew he was the last of an era after Stevie retired, and now the moment has come. Players like Joe Sakic and his kind are why players resent the new crop, and yes I'm talking about Crosby. Guest mindfly Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Shocking and sad news...Sakic will always be one of my all time favourites together with Yzerman... I'll salute you Sakic, by hanging up your jersey in the rafter in my room

Canadian_Yzerman_Fan 7 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 The only respectable AV of the 90's Great player. Great captain. Very unfortunate to have his career end the way it did. I really thought he had more elite level hockey in him.

SuperNovaXll 124 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Only player on the Avs that I ever liked. Had nothing but total respect for the guy, even during the days when the Wings and Avs were bitter rivals. It was great for the game of hockey seeing Sakics Avs against Yzermans Wings. I dont think it was possible to dislike either of those two players no matter what team you liked. Ill miss the guy. Congrats on a amazing career Joe!
