Sour grapes? Chicago has a bad ass team and I think they are doing everything possible to get a Cup in Chi_town. If I were a Hawks fan, I'd be really happy with the way things are going after years of being s***ty or mediocre. They aren't in that bad of cap hell like everyone makes it to be. I think they'll be able to move Campbell and that will help them out alot. If there is someone out there willing to take Gomez's contract, anything is possible. Teams are always looking for D men like him.

Oh, I agree he's not worth it, not even close. BUT, there is at least one GM out there that will be dumb or desperate enough to take on his contract. Maybe a team that needs to spend some cash to to reach the cap minimum.

Here in lies the biggest dilemma for the Hawks I think.

Next season is the season every GM in the league is supposed to be fearing/preparing for already. Maybe in a previous season it would have been a mid-high level hassle finding a taker, but if everything goes the way people are saying and the cap drops big time, then this goes from mid-high level hassle to outright ridiculousness.

True, I hope you are right, I'd love for the Hawks to be stuck with him and lose some of their depth at forward, I just have a feeling they are going to luck out and dump him on somebody. Here's to hoping for the worst for them though, lol.

That`s fine, I hope he`s nice and healthy for the Hawks and contributes all of he`s capable of, because that way, the Hawks will crumble, leading to another Wings Cup. Least we forget Havlat had the same amount of points, 1 fewer goal in only 16 games, playing 1st&2nd line minutes, just like Hossa.

I`m still amazed this story came out so late.

Are you kidding? Ask any Hawks fan what they'd prefer...the Blackhawks now or the Blackhawks when Bill Wirtz was still running the show.

I'm sure most of them welcome this circus over what they're used to.

Anyway, in the long run this is probably the smartest move but it'll be interesting to say the least. I think what scares me the most is that Hossa lead our team in scoring with this injury. What's he going to be like when he's at 100%?

im pretty sure there WERE no hawks fans when wirtz in the office. That entire fan base has existed for less than 15 months.

In 2006, the Penguins bought a bunch of free agents to go along with their top tier young superstars. They lacked goaltending and good coaching and got crushed. At the time a lot of people thought that team would be Cup contenders as well. Not saying it'll happen to the Hawks, but it has happend before.

If they're able to move Campbell, I applaud them, but who will want a $7 mil defenseman that isn't playing well? Plus, there's the chance the cap will go down again next year. $7 mil is a ton of cap space to commit to any one player, let alone someone who's drastically under performing. As for Gomez, when he has someone to pass to, he's really good, which is why they went after Brian Gionta. Those two had great chemistry on the Devils.

The two least important months of those 8 months. Really, who cares about October and November if you know you're going to make it to the playoffs?

But we all know that when players come back from long injuries they don't start performing right away. Hossa will miss summer conditioning, training camp, and two months of playing hockey. He's bound to be out of shape until the middle of January, making him useless for half a season, provided that he even returns on time.

And I'm not saying the Hawks will get nowhere without him, but it's gonna be really hard for them to be one of the best with Havlat and Khabibulin gone and Hossa out. They will be left with two forwards and two defensemen to pick up the slack. Oh and Kopecky.

Yeah they will probably still make the playoffs, but 2.5-3 months is a lot of hockey and I think the Hawks will be very surprised to find themselves trying to catch up to win the division instead of on top like they expect. But this is just all my opinion.

I would believe they are sugar coating the amount of time it will take to get him back in the lineup. From my own experience I had a rotator cuff surgery and it took me 7 months to regain full motion back in my shoulder. I had an extra 4 weeks of rehab too. And now 3 years later I still have problems with stiffness and pain some days. I'm just glad it wasn't my right shoulder or I wouldn't be able to play my favorite sport of softball without issues. But, everyone reacts different to surgeries and i'm not a well honed professional at any sport so I could be off on this one, but shoulders are tough joints to rehab. I hope he gets well soon so I can see him get...KRONWALLED!!

Agreed, they just told my mom she needs this surgery and to be prepared for 9 months of non-use. Granted she's not a physically fit hockey player but 4 months seems light.

I'm having arthroscopic surgery 12 September and will be off work for 3-4 weeks, and then the physio sessions start(1 month), then swimming with the physio....then i start more intense weight traning workouts. doc said it would take about 4 months after surgery date to start playing contact sports or throwing, so with hossa's profession and degree of contact it may be atleast 4 months. atleast he'll have kopecky by his side...he can be hossa's butler and get him drinks and stuff while he's rehabbing

i would like to see hossa come back though. even though he couldn't re-sign with the wings, i still like and respect his as a player/person and hope nothing but the best for him.

I'm amazed at the 4 month return time. To be honest, I don't expect to see Hossa back on the ice until mid- to late-Jan, if he has the surgery. I have to agree with the previous posts about Chi playing catch up until that time. I have always liked the fact that Babs has this team ready in Oct. If Wings can rattle off 16-18 wins in Oct and Nov, they will set the tone for the Central. Racking up 30+ points guarantees 2 things a playoff berth, and the ability to have a slight letdown later in the year due to poor play, injuries, etc.

I am expecting the Wings to take both games in Sweden, come home, and remind the "boys" from Chicago that this is a men's game and spank the Hawks at the Joe.

Keep this in mind, one good hard check into the shoulder and the boards can undo a lot of surgical work.

I still remember everyone predicting the Pens to be in the Finals that year with everyone they picked up during the offseason/lockout. That tandem of Fleury/Thibault was pretty brutal that season.

I'm still in shock that they threw that much for Campbell. As I said before, I really don't see anyone other than a team like Tampa trying to trade for him.
