Good choice. If Marleau was going to stay with the team, it was all but certain after this last disappointing playoff loss for that organization and fans that he'd lose his captaincy.
Rob Blake has been there before and hopefully he can help the Sharks out. Good move by Todd.

Marleau should have been given one of the A's. He's effectively being scapegoated for the team's playoff failures. Regardless, I say an important thing when I say:
You don't need a title to be a leader.

I agree! I think Boyle should have been the choice for team Captain...with Thornton and Marleau as Alternates
I think making Blake captain is a mistake because he only signed a 1 year contract and might only have 1 or 2 left in him and then the sharks will have to name a new captain anyway...

Honestly I don't think the Sharks are looking for someone by themselves to lead the team. Just someone to wear the C as a formality and have the veteran guys carry the leadership role.

in my mind patty is a disappointment. sharks thought he was the next yzerman...i thought he was a marty lapointe minus the character. i didn't see to much heart out of patty at all. i saw some blood come out his nose during a playoff series a few years back, but i didn't see the heart that other sharks fans saw. he sucks. f*** em...hope blake can yell loud...i love the sharks.

I think Blake could provide leadership, but I just don't think that having him as the go-to guy for one year is a successful solution long-term.
And I'm not saying Blake wouldn't be a good captain.

This was decided in a team vote and Blake got the most votes. Best way to decide who's the Captain IMO.

Not McLellans fault, though I agree with you.
Marleau was a terrible leader. His s*** was bad even right after Nolan and Friesen left. He may be a decent player, but I'ev always considered him to be a terrible leader.
Blake seems like he'll do fine in replacement, and after he retires, maybe Thornton will get a shot.
