Wings sign Todd Bertuzzi

I hear that Bert and Ozzie are pretty good buds (somehow)... I like this move to light that extra spark under Ozzie this season. It doesn't seem like Ozzie really cares about winning the cup for himself nearly as much as winning it for another veteran...

just sayin...

this is an AWFUL signing. way worse than williams. bertuzzi is just bad.

so much for young players getting to finally join the team... lets keep signing these washed up losers... who's next? lang? calder?

I was going to miss this season due to deployment, now i won't be missing much. WORST NEWS EVER

Best wishes to you. Be well.

Bert? Boy, he won't be on a line with Lang this time. Hard to tell what he'll do. What the heck, I'm on board with it.

Since everyone here is so fond of playing Fantasy Lines, I figured I'd chip in.

The only forwards I don't see being separated much this season are Datsyuk/Zetterberg and Franzen/Filppula

Other than that, I think we can expect a lot of shuffling, especially at first as Babcock tries to get a feel for how the lines gel together.

What I'd like to see most of the time is:

Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Holmstrom

Franzen/Filppula/Cleary

Bertuzzi/Helm/Leino

Williams/Draper/Eaves

Maltby

I can also see Bertuzzi or Cleary getting significant top-line minutes especially if Holmstrom spends any time dealing with injuries, most likely Cleary unless Bertuzzi shows some major hop in his step.

I hope we can call up a few of the GR kids for more than just spot duty, I'd like to see what the future will look like without having to follow the Griffins all season too.

I know cause he was so expen-- oh wait........I mean, he had such low points last ye--- oh yea.......well, blah blah blah Moore, blah blah blah evil blah blah blah. Seriously, how is he a washed up loser again?

Big, solid, veteran with killer hands who can actually push back for an awesome price.

WTF is there not to like?

I'm happy with this signing as long as he can refrain from stupid penalties all the time. People sure do get their panties in a wad pretty quick over a 1.5mil guy with some potential. It's not like he's 40. I like these line combo's. Now if we could just get back to hockey season! :hockey:

This was a good signing - period. Not great...just good. At the highest level, this gives us a lot more options to harness more offense/goals.

Keep in mind:

-Leino, Helm, and Abbs are unproven (although they all showed good/great signs last year/playoffs...still unproven over full NHL season).

*You can say "these guys won't get the chance to prove that they are goal scorers over a NHL season if they don't play??? How can they prove this if they don't get their chance...they can't do this if play in GR" Sorry, the true reality is the Wings and their success expectations don't coincide with being the place for players to devleop their game....GO TO THE ISLANDERS OR THE COYOTES IF THAT'S WHAT YOU NEED AS A PLAYER!

-A key to our sucess in the past has been the ability to roll 4 lines (2 very, very good lines, 1 very/good line, and 1 eneregy/grind line with offensive potential). Having Bert on the 3rd or 4th line down low makes a very tough match up for opposing teams.

-We can/may trade a D-man at some point (LEBDA), and have some cap room to sign someone at the trade deadline.

-We can always trade Bert if it's not working out come...say...Dec/January.

We need guys who are proven commodities....guarentee some goals....that's what we did. Not spectacular, but needed.

Playing on a line with Robert Lang had to have been s***ty. Put him on a line with Darren Helm and light a fire under his ass. Helm plays like he swallowed a mario bros star.

Simile - WIN

What's to complain about here? For the past 2 years, he's had injury troubles (playing in 60 or so games each year), but he still put up 15+ goals and 40+ points each year in those reduced games. $1.5 million is pretty damn cheap for that kind of production and consider the fact that, if healthy, he has the potential for more.

You just made me spray mountain dew all over the monitor. Great stuff man.

I'll also point out that out of the 40 points or so bert had last year, 14 were pp points.
