Every single year in Detroit it seems like there is a "goalie situation"
Well keep these stats in mind

Chris Osgood

389 Regular Season Wins (10th all time)

74 Playoff Wins (8th all time)

49 Regular Season Shutouts (2nd among active goalies behind Martin Brodeur)

15 Playoffs Shutouts (4th most all time)

2.09 Playoff GAA (10th all time)

He seems like a goalie worth holding on to until he retires and having faith in if you ask me...

A better argument is that Osgood's key playoff stats are similar to those of Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy. We all have heard the arguments regarding his regular season numbers being at that kind of level... here's a direct comparison of his postseason numbers.

Playoff stats:

Games played:
Martin Brodeur, 176
Patrick Roy, 247
Chris Osgood, 129

Total wins:
Martin Brodeur, 98
Patrick Roy, 151
Chris Osgood, 74

Wins/60 mins:
Martin Brodeur, .537
Patrick Roy, .596
Chris Osgood, .580

Shutouts/60 mins:
Martin Brodeur, .126
Patrick Roy, .091
Chris Osgood, .118

GAA:
Martin Brodeur, 1.98
Patrick Roy, 2.30
Chris Osgood, 2.09

Save percentage:
Martin Brodeur, .920
Patrick Roy, .919 (note: does not include Roy's first two playoff seasons)
Chris Osgood, .916

For those who would downplay Osgood's achievements or his career; Those are some impressive numbers, and the fact that he has ultimately been as good or almost as good as two guys universally considered among the elite all-time goaltenders should make people take another look.

"I've never seen a warlock do that without his magic."

but first we need to get into the playoffs in order for Ozzie to shine.
we did it with Conk last year playing 40 games and winning 25 of those for us.
but does anyone think that Howard can do that ... NO

Osgood will be playing more games than he did last season.

If you honestly don't think Detroit can make the playoffs in a top 4 spot simply because Howard is Detroit's backup then you are insane.

Even if Howard poops the bed (which i dont think he will) we can throw Larsson in and see what happens...I would love to see him play at the professional level.

Lucky for us the “goalie situation” doesn’t seem to affect Ozzie. In fact, I think he likes proving the critics wrong.

There is no a "goalie situation" this year - win or die with Osgood.

I will support him 1000%

Go Wings go!!!

Seems like theres always "a goalie situation" when March or April rolls around. I just dont understand the paranoia...

It's not so much that Ozzie lost one game or the opener. It's more like he reminds us of the Ozzie of last year regular season. What we need to see is something different that will give us a sliver of hope that he won't repeat last year's regular season play.

Up 3-1 and lost 4-3, can't seem to shut it down. 4 goals on 23 shots.

How do we know he is continuing his regular season slump? We've played one game...

You know he has had a good run here in Detroit. I hope he knows when to step down when it is his time, and let the new guys take over. Osgood has had a good career and we owe him to let him leave on his own terms. I think that it is becoming more obvious that his time is soon though.

Yeah, he only carried an inconsistent, underperforming team to a Finals lost this past season. He's clearly lost it and should have retired in the summer.

What happened in the playoffs?

Seriously, I missed it. Can you tell me if Osgood kept up his poor play in the post-season?

look we can all make stats say what they want us to say.
Whilst a Redwing;
Ozzie's best year in GAA was the 07-08 season when we won the cup,
he had a 2.09gaa and a 0.914sv% as well, which was his 2nd best after
the 0.917 he posted in the 94-95 half year season.

Last year the 08-09 was his worst on both accounts. A 3.09gaa and a 0.887sv%.
Now I know that the Wings were offence laidened last year and defence seemed
to be and 2nd afterthought, but Oz played just 3 games more than his best stats
season of 07-08. Yet he allowed 53 more goals overall. An increase of 1 goal a game.

But if we take a look at his Playoff record for the past 2 years he has been nothing
short of sensational. 42 games, a combined Sv% of 0.928 and a GAA ave of 1.78.
Now if only Oz could bring that to the regular season, everyone would be happy bunnys!
"What are you guys doing?" Reggie Dunlop
"Putting on the foil coach" Jeff Hanson
"Yeah, every game, you want some coach?" Steve Hanson
"Er, no. No thanks guys." Reggie Dunlop
"Make sure they don't leave the bench!" Reggie Dunlop.
