If you rely on Maltby, Leino and Ericsson to score then 99.9% of the time you, unfortunately, will not win. If you cannot convert on the 5 on 3 then unfortunately... you will not win.

Yep, our better players (Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen) need to pick it up. Only one game though, predicting a good ole beat down tomorrow

It's obviously because of the last game that ended like that.

I was simply commenting that it was odd that both games ended like that and they had that score up to begin with. I'm not claiming a conspiracy or anything. I just found it weird.

My Five up and down for what I saw of the game.

Up:

1. Draper and Maltby, the team's "useless" players lifted their own weight and them some. I liked seeing that.

2. Bert looks much more comfortable than he did in his first stint. He is quicker and is making things happen out there.

3. Penalty kill looks a lot better.

4. Ericsson is doing very well.

5. Ville Leino. End of story.

Down:

1. Star power: There was none

2. Powerplay was a disaster

3. Osgood did not play up to par. He could have had a better game even though he was hung out to dry on a couple of those goals.

4. Williams did not impress me in the least.

5. Rafalski is still a turnstile, and Lidstrom looked much worse than normal.

We are a good team. We are a Cup contender. The Blues just outworked, outskated, and outperformered us. Couple that with a fantastic record down the stretch last season, all while being without 2-3 very key components, and I think you just might stumble upon a legitimate Cup contender.

Better luck next time, ******.

We'll definitely have to play better tomorrow to expect a win

Don't forget they overachieved last season and still were swept in the first round.

They got a long way to go.

Overachieved without their best player? Just think how much they'll overachieve with him and their 1st round defenseman all year.

They won't overachieve.

You act like they are going to go straight up simply because they were without a few key pieces. They aren't the only team to improve.

One year does not define how they are going to end up the next.

Regular season Osgood was regular season Osgood,

4 goals on 23 shots

Average goalie plays above average to steal the win for the Blues, yep typical regular season DRW loss.

Not at all, but their improvements certainly trump Columbus and Nashville. I don't see them making a big cup run, but some people saying they won't make the playoffs aren't understanding how much of an impact Eric Johnson, Eric Brewer, and Paul Kariya might have on a team that has some good pieces already.

100% agreed. I cannot argue with a single thing here.

I'm hoping for a much better outcome tomorrow... errrr, later today.

Good list, mine would be:

Up:

1) Secondary Scoring

2) Offensive cohesiveness and play domination

Down:

1) Defense = Fail

2) Special Teams

But if it's ok with you, I guess they should just play out the games and we'll see what happens, OK?

[sarcasm] Yes, of course. I was suggesting that they simply forgo the season, and give the Cup to the Blues.

It would save time. [/sarcasm]

Ozzie looks just like he did in the preseason and in the regular season last year. Once again, every mistake the Wings made wound up in the net.

Blues fans are hapless people who've had nothing to cheer for their whole lives, so it's only natural that they'll overact after this win. They know they're a long way away from being a good team, so they just want to rub it in as much as they can.

What?

Give me a break. Some of you need to actually READ my posts.

Oh noez, Ozzie let in a few bad goals. Looks like this season is over guys. Wings 0-82. Same ol' Osgood that sucked so bad last season he helped this team go to the SCF for the 2nd year in a row. It was probably all Conklin anyways.

And yes, Blues fan is only coming here because his team won. He'd not have shown up if they lost -- simple as that. He wants to gloat and pretends a single game means a more contested division, which is just as knee-jerk as those declaring Osgood will suck this season or even sucked last season. Obviously this game meant a lot more to Blues fans since it isn't them that has been actually winning cups -- i.e. Memento-like memory loss where they forget that every season their team has had in existence has ended in choking or disappointment, and therefore over-celebrate a single regular season win.

As for the Wings, Osgood needs to be better today. I'm not going to judge how this season is going to end up based on two games played abroad, but I will point out that, today, he will need better rebound control. The screen wasn't his fault at all as what you can't see, you can't be expected to save.

Kariya was impressive. As much as I've always hated the annoying, diving ******, if he can actually stay healthy the Blues might have a better shot at getting past round one for a change.

Edit: Also, Malts was clearly on his game and it was pretty damn good the shorty he scored, as an over-the-hill PK specialist would not have had the sense nor speed to break in like that. More of that plz.

Yes, this was my big plan. I signed up in 2002, and waited, lying dormant in the weeds until hopefully in 2009, my team would win a single game in Sweeden, and I could come out triumphant and gleeful!!!!

I posted 300+ practice posts, so that I could cover up my trolling ways.

You caught me.

Well done. The staff here should give you a free Booster pack.

Maybe people were just expecting more knowledgeable, less baiting posts from a 46 year old.

I said the division was going to be tougher this year, and that it wouldn't be a cakewalk for the Wings this time.

That was baiting?

Bertuzzi IS a crybaby? Where is the baiting?

Right. How could ripping on a Wings player and calling him a crybaby possibly be baiting? Especially a player as controversial as Bertuzzi.

If you can't see it. then maybe you are a troll.

Like I said in the other thread, we have plenty of fans here from other teams that have been around for years. You're clearly trying to stir up some s***. How about actually dropping some hockey knowledge about the Blues. The best part about having fans from other teams here, is they can provide a non-homer perspective and give an informed opinion about their own team.

Here is the thing, my hatred for Suzi goes back to way before he ever became a Red Wing. Sorry you are taking it personal, but your team did sign him, and when you sign the scum of the earth, you should expect comments like this. He is more than controversial, he is a lightning rod, so..... there ya go.

I would think many Red Wings fans also realize what a wretched individual Bert really is.

By the end of the season, you all will be sorry you have him too, trust me.

As for adding knowledge, if you look in the Saturday GDT, I was the poster who told everyone that it would be Conk vs. Howard in goal.

You're surprised at the reaction you got?

Come on. "Taken out of context" is the norm here.

And while you're at it...quit baiting me.

Here, as in, everywhere? Or here, as in, the sort of hypocrite statement that this kind of stuff doesn't happen on your forum? Humor me.
