I understand the skill dropoff, but I don't get why he doesn't play as physical as he used to. He just looks scared to use his body out there.

Doesn't Bert have a recent history of back injuries? If so, he might be try not to aggrivate or reinjure it, I think.

Moore incident, you know?

If he can't tell the difference between a bodycheck and trying to end someone's career, then maybe he shouldn't be playing hockey.

In any case, that isn't likely the reason. I think his history with injuries has resulted in him being more timid. He used to try to hit everything that moved. Now, I'm comparing his physicality to Kopecky.

Actually that too is "understandable". He probably has Moore in the back of his mind whenever he steps on the ice and it subconsciously makes him to play more carefully.

It makes me wonder how a great player can lose so much of what he was before, but I guess what he's been through has been traumatic and his head is never again fully in the same place.

The one thing I am looking for is a production from 1st line. Datsyuk and Zetterberg look pretty good together but so far, no much of impression as the number.

As long as Ovechkin and co. don't score the Wings first line has played a great game.

He is damaged (psychologically) goods. Every team took a chance on him after the incident thinking he could return to the form of old ... notta. Don't know why Holland thought that he could.

If it is a recurring injury that he is afraid of, might as well go all out ... this is your last year of playing in the NHL. Nothing to save yourself for. After this, no one will pick him up.

Good pressure by the Wings. Filppula had a good change but his shot missed the goal by some 10 feet. I guess that's what makes players like Ovechkin and Franzén special. They could hit the net even when looking the other way.
