MISSION: Find back of net

The Grand Rapids Griffins have gone 5 periods without scoring and will need every bit of offence they can muster as they take on the surging San Antonio Rampage. The Rampage have one of the best records early in the season and they will be confident on beating a struggling Griffins side. Key additions Williams and Newburry are both off to underwhelming starts as they have combined for a single point. Highly touted prospects Cory Emmerton and Jan Mursak have contributed even less.

Thankfully for the Griffins, this back-to-back away series against San Antonio will see out their 5 game road trip to start the season. They will then seek comfort in the confines of the Van Andel Arena for a whopping 6 straight games. Defenceman Jakub Kindl was scratched in the previous game, assuming he was injured. Not sure what his status is for these two games but hopefully he will be back in the line-up tonight. Goaltending has been the Griffins strong point in the first three games, with McCollum posting the impressive numbers of 1.01 GAA and 0.964 SV%. Tomas Tatar is apparently having Visa issues so his status is unknown.

Projected lines:

Ritola - Newbury - Williams
Lemieux - McGrath - Pare
Axelsson - Emmerton - Tardif
Crosty - Vigilante - Mursak

(Tatar*/Walsh)

Kindl - Janik
Kolosov - Delmore
Pyett - Ehrhardt

(Piche)

McCollum
Larsson

Individual Leaders:

Goals: Axelsson, Delmore, McGrath, Janik, Williams (1)
Assists: Axelsson, Pare, Tardif, Ritola (1)
Points: Axelsson (2), 7 tied (1)
PIM: Newbury (20), Crosty (7)
Plus/Minus: Axelsson, Ehrhardt (+1)

Notes:

* McCollum has been strong in his opening two games and Fraser might roll with the hot goalie again.
* The Griffins are 93.8% on the PK having killed 15 of 16 PP's.

This is da ja vue, a solid first period followed by a missing D in the second as the Rampage blow in 5 goals. Griffs blow a 5 on 3 full 2mins, although a equalizing goal was waived off.

Bright spot for Griffs and ultimately the Wings, Tatar is making his debut and is looking a class player. Very nice touches, was robbed by Montoya but has assisted on Delmores goal.

I can see this kid being a Wing before he is 20.

The game was on at about 5:30 so I missed it.

7-2. 7 goals AGAIN? What the heck is wrong with this team?

The only positives are that Mursak scored which will be great for his confidence, Tatar made his debut and had an assist and was +1 and also that the next game is at home.
