EDIT: Thread topic wouldn't take whole title on one line. Mods if you could modify if you see necessary, much appreciated.

"He's been my mentor. He's given lots of young people an opportunity," Holland said. "I learned a lot from '94 to '97 working with Jimmy D and Scotty Bowman every day for three years. It was like going to Harvard."

Best line of the article.

Thanks for posting SWF!

I worry for the days when Devellano and Holland and Illitch are gone. These guys are just as responsible for success as the players and coaches, and will probably be hard to replace. I'm glad Holland and Devellano seem to be grooming Yzerman to replace them.

Just get Yzerman and Lidstrom to take over and we're set.

While the thought of Yzerman and Lidstrom being a part of the Wings management for the foreseeable future is a pleasant thought, those two can't just step in and do what Devellano and Bowman did for this franchise.

While its comforting knowing Stevie is learning every day from the likes of Jimmy D and Kenny right now as well as the short time he worked with Bowman, its doesn't necessarily mean it going to translate into that type of success. Don't get me wrong, I sure hope its that simple but I just don't think it is. They're just completely different mind and skill-sets.

I don't see how the loss of Bowman is a big deal. He had a very limited role in his last few years on the team, and the entire style of the Wings changed once Babs became coach.

Bowman was a great coach and much much better than Babcock, but Detroit hasn't really done so bad since he left.

Jimmy D and Kenny H are another story.

The loss of Bowman wasn't a big deal because they brought in Babs. When Lewis was behind the bench he was a sweetheart that never challenged the players to work hard the way Bowman did and as a result the team was struggling when it mattered the most.

Obviously Jimmy D and Kenny are whole different story.

I wasn't implying that losing Bowman was that big of a deal, rather I don't think its realistic to think the Wings will be "set" if they insert Stevie and Lids when Jimmy and Kenny move on. That was my point.

Maybe.... Steve could be headed elsewhere soon if someone doesn't retire quick. People on LGW have speculated all sorts of places he's headed (Ottawa comes to mind).

He's busy w/ the Olympics at the moment, but when the Olympics are over...

Called it :hehe:

I give Devellano the credit there.

Little bit of column A, little bit of column B, with a heavy dosing of scouting overseas, the Ilich family, and Devellano.

Fourth, Devellano should be given 10 times the credit Holland gets around here for the Wings rise from the "Dead Things", the scouting quality Detroit has, to the three cups, and to the team that is currently being iced. (Wait maybe not the last one :hehe: )

End rant

Also, as everyone seems to forgot, Yzerman's still behind Jim Nill on the depth chart.
