The Grand Rapids Griffins made an impressive home debut last night in defeated the Abbotsford Heat 5-3. The Griffins found themselves in an early 2-0 hole but regrouped by scoring 5 of the next 6 goals. Larsson was shaky early but responded to make 25 saves and get his first win of the season. Michael Nylander had a 3 assist debut for the Griffins as he impressed on the PP with his poise and ability to control the puck.

The only concern to come from last night was the injuries to Delmore and Axelsson. Delmore injured a shoulder late whereas Axelsson's injury is unknown as the winger missed the 3rd period. The status of the pair is unknown as of now but waiting in the wings are Detroit prospects Pare and Ehrhardt to take their place should the two miss. The Griffins will seek to gain revenge for their narrow 3-2 loss to Toronto exactly two weeks prior. Tomas Tatar will continue to push to impress as a decision on the location of his immediate playing future looms.

Axelsson - Nylander - Tardif
Ritola - Newbury - Mursak
Tatar - Rissmiller - Williams

No Axelsson, no Delmore. Hope both injuries aren't too serious. :(

Griffins down 2-1 nearing the end of the 2nd. No Tatar either, maybe he's going to be sent to the OHL? Seems strange that he wouldn't be playing otherwise.

Griffs take the lead on a goal by Vig but what a great play by McGrath to steal the puck, keep it in the offensive zone and feed it cross crease for the tap in.

McGrath's been pretty impressive this season.

Griffins win in a shootout. Finally! Seems like we lost every single one last season. 2/2 at home!

Did Tatar play? He is in some of the pictures that Konnan posted...

Griff's off to a 4 - 0 lead after two against Abbotsford today. Playing really well despite flu sweeping the team. Lots of guys in but Tardiff and McGrath playing with the flu.

Another great assist by McGrath on Vig's 2nd goal in 2 games.

Why is it that whoever plays with McGrath seems to put the puck in the net? Last year was Frankie and Frankie. Should McGrath be ranked higher in our prospect polls and thoughts than he is??

The additions of Rissmiller and Nylander have really helped, especially on the PP.

Also nice to see the goals against going down from last weekend.
