Fogworth 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2009 Has anyone noticed that Bert can only successfully pass to the opponent? I came unglued during his PP performance against Colorado... I think I woke the house up screaming... So... Bert needs to be on a line with only... BERT! Yes, just him on a lonely line by himself playing with the other team. Thunderpriest 8 Report post Posted October 30, 2009 I have long advocated keeping the Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Holmstrom line together, but with Filppula out, I don't see Babcock doing so. He'll want to break them up to have two lines with elite centers. Homer will stay on the top line. Bertuzzi has been playing well and looks to be improving with each game as he adjusts to our system. I don't understand Babcock's defensive pairings. Why did he split up Lidstrom/Rafalski & Kronwall/Stewart? Lebda is just awful.....I cringe when he's on the ice. So, here is how I'd line us up, assuming that Dats & Z are split. (And realistically, it's the only way to go with Flip out now.) Leino, Datsyuk, Holmstrom (Yes, Leino on the top line.....the kid's got great puck control.) Cleary, Zetterberg, Bertuzzi ( I could swap Helms & Cleary for more speed, letting Williams center the 3rd line occasionally.) May, Helms, Williams Maltby, Draper, Eaves Abdelkader Lidstrom, Rafalski Kronwall, Stuart Ericsson, Lebda Anybody else miss Franzen & Lilja right about now? Unreal. The Mule 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2009 in that scenario, you have to give Dats more speed to work with than that... plus, I just do NOT like Leino on his off wing, he seems VERY uncomfortable there... if we're breaking them up - Leino-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi Cleary-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Draper-Helm-Williams (also better off on their right side) May-Abdelkader-Maltby Leino and Bert aren't exactly speedsters. Carman 387 Report post Posted October 30, 2009 Leino-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi Cleary-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Draper-Abdelkader-Williams May-Helm-Maltby/Eaves I'd be good with this, Helm and Kader can be interchangable, I just think Helm has played very well with May and Eaves lately so if it isn't broken I'm not fixing it. The top 6 really doesn't have much speed at all, so I wouldn't be opposed to throwing Helm, Draper, Williams up with the top 2 lines throughout the game to get some breathers for Holmstrom/Bertuzzi. TheWestWing 71 Report post Posted October 30, 2009 (edited) Though perhaps we should move piglet from the wing to center. Dunno. Edited October 30, 2009 by TheWestWing
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted October 30, 2009 Leino and Bert aren't exactly speedsters. you're right, they're not - but both are faster than Holmstrom - plus, I just think Holmstrom works better with Z (well both Z and Dats, but if they have to be spilt up, I'd rather see him with Z)

I agree under the assumption that ZDH is getting split up... I'd still rather Helm be on the 3rd and Abs on the 4th though...

mmamolo 287 Report post Posted October 30, 2009 I think we saw early indications of the lines in last night's games. This isn't necessarily what I would do but I think we'll see: Bertuzzi - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Cleary - Zetterberg - Williams Leino - Draper - Eaves Maltby - Helm - May/Abdelkader I think Eaves showed some good drive for the net last night and may get a chance to elevate his game by getting some extra minutes. Plus his speed and forecheckign skills will mix nicely with Draper and Leino. I also think we'll continue to see the D pairings changed up from the norm. Lidstrom - Kronwall Stuart - Rafalski Ericsson - Lebda With Ericsson getting some time with Lidstrom
dangledangle 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2009 (edited) Helm had his turn, now it's Leino's. He's a healthy scratch on Saturday. The lines they practiced with: Bertuzzi-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Cleary-Zetterberg-Williams Draper-Helm-Eaves May-Abdelkader-Maltby (Leino working in) The defense stays the same: Lidstrom-Kronwall Stuart-Rafalski Ericsson-Lebda Meech-Lilja (scratched) Osgood (starting) Howard Edited October 30, 2009 by dangledangle
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted October 30, 2009 Bertuzzi-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Cleary-Zetterberg-Leino Eaves-Helm-Draper May-Abdelkader-Maltby Almost what I suggested. Except I forgot about Williams (easy thing to do) and Babs opted to scratch Leino in favor of him. As for Ville, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to let him sit a game out. He has struggled lately and could use some time to think about how he's supposed to play. I'd really like to see him next to Zetterberg though.
