Still no word. Waiting on the report from mlive.

ugh, out at least a week - http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2011/02/red_wings_patrick_eaves_out_at.html

DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves will miss at least a week with a lower-body injury. The club has recalled Jan Mursak from the Grand Rapids Griffins for Thursday's game against Dallas at Joe Louis Arena.

General manager Ken Holland said the team hasn't received results from the MRI Eaves had today.

"He's so stiff he can't move,'' Holland said. "He's out a minimum of a week.''

Holland said they won't be sure what the injury is until they get the MRI results but that Eaves is sore through the groin and lower body.

Eaves was injured midway through the second period of Wednesday's 4-3 loss to San Jose when he checked Torrey Mitchell behind the Sharks net and their knees collided.

Doesn't sound good for Eaves

Yep I saw that. A little more than we were thinking. Mursak getting another chance to show some stuff I guess but come Saturday we will probably have to send him back down again. Always tough to see your guys go down with an injury making a nice play like that check was. Get well soon Patty!

Here is a report from TSN:

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings expect forward Patrick Eaves to be out for at least a week.

Red Wings general manager Ken Holland says Eaves injured "everything but his knee" when he led with his right leg on a check against San Jose's Torrey Mitchell on Tuesday night.

Good that it's "everything but his knee," or bad?

Sounds like he's pretty banged up, with pain everywhere, so to be honest this break might be good for him in the long run. Let him rest up, give him all the time he needs with Flip and Modano coming back, so when he returns he'll be fresh.

Detroit — Patrick Eaves appears to have dodged a more serious injury.Eaves suffered a groin injury Tuesday against San Jose. Eaves won't go with the Red Wings on their week-long trip to Buffalo and the West Coast beginning Saturday, but hopes to return to the team soon after that.

det news

thumbup.gif Not as serious so this is good news.

Holland said right wing Patrick Eaves, who’s missed six games with a groin injury, hasn’t resumed skating, so he’s probably not going to be ready Wednesday.

How much longer are we looking at here?? I am not sure people realize how much we need this guy back on that 3rd/4th line.

Very underrated player. Hopefully we are bringing him back next year.

not just next year, but long term... unless injured, there is no reason he should ever be scratched, his value cannot be quantified in pure stats and as I've said a million times, he is the type of player you win championships with.

I'm worried about another team making him an offer. IMO he is a goal scorer, and paired with a play-maker, he could easily score 30 goals a year.

agreed 100% about his ability, but I think as long as the Wings want him, he will come back - he's gone on record saying that he loves it here and it's not about money, I think the only thing the Wings need to do to keep him is give him a respectful contract (1.2 or higher a year for several years) and guarantee him playing time (no more of this healthy scratch crap) and he will remain in the Winged Wheel...

I want him locked up long term, 3+ years and I wouldn't have a problem with the wings giving him upwards of a 5+ year deal(not that it's at all likely) - that's how confident I am in his play and work ethic

I agree too. I'd love to see Eaves on the team for a long time. Your right too, players take pay cuts just to play here, but if another team were to dangle a 2.5m contract or similar... who knows?

Do you also have the feeling that the team isn't using him to the best of his ability? I know he is used to kill penalties, but we all know what he can do when paired on a top offensive line. I'm not sure if Holmstrom has been playing on the first or second line recently, but if so, he could alternate with Eaves every other game.

I've been saying for awhile that he should be used on the left side, at the top of the circle on the PP (almost a Stamkos type role) and fire one timers - this also opens up your D better to cycle the puck, because the forwards have to respect the guy at the top of the circle and the D can't come out to him, because they open up down low if they do... as for 5v5, I think he's very good at the role he is in and would probably prefer he stay in the capacity he is (not that he couldn't be used in a bigger role), just add the PP minutes to his current responsibilities and I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility at all that he could become a 30 goal scorer...

I need to give Eaves props for something. Usually he gets noticed for his speed and his work ethic on the PK but when you watch him sometimes you just think, "Man, this guy is damn smart, especially in the defensive zone." When you watch him PK sometimes it's as if he knows what the opponent is going to do before they know it themselves. All of a sudden his determination and speed kick in as he rushes to get to a spot before they can. When he gets there, he then blocks a shot, deflects a pass or steals the puck, etc. You just think to yourself, "This guy gets it. He just knows the game."

thumbup.gif +1 sir.

He just does the right things and never gets cheated in his own zone. Constantly working and always throws that extra check to let you know that he is there. Love Patty and hope he gets an extension.

Some of my friends earlier in the year thought that the Wings were definitely going to lose Eaves when he was on that scoring streak. They thought that Mursak, who is a good prospect in his own right, could take Eaves' spot next year and the 4th line wouldn't miss a beat. Earlier in the year I was somewhat in that camp (mostly because of the log jam the bottom six will have next year) but now not so much. I love Mursak but no way he'll be as good as Eaves next year.

Red Wings general manager Ken Holland could not be reached for comment, but said earlier Thursday he was making progress in contract talks with Ericsson and right wing Patrick Eaves.

Eaves, 27, also would like the opportunity for a greater role after two seasons as a grinder and penalty killer who also has contributed offensively (25 goals combined in the past two seasons). A source said the team offered Eaves slightly more than $1 million per season. He made $750,000 in 2010-11.

I know Eaves will sign, I just want to know for how long and what kind of money. I'm betting shorter term again. Probably 2 years. He wants a bigger role, a chance to prove himself. If Holland has any negotiating poise left, he'll leverage that into a cheaper short term deal that allows him to play for his next contract.

Whatever though. All I care about is getting him signed. I want this guy to retire as a Wing.

Eaves is the perfect bottom six/role playing guy that any NHL team would be lucky to have. I know that sounds kind of extreme, but Patrick Eaves is a very good penalty killer, solid defensively, occasionally fights, doesn't make dumb plays and has a good wrist shot. I'd be very happy with a 2 or 3 year deal, but i'd think he deserves one or the other -- no more one year deals.

and who honestly wouldn't want THIS on their team??
