The club has recalled Jan Mursak from the Grand Rapids Griffins for Thursday's game against Dallas at Joe Louis Arena.General manager Ken Holland said the team hasn't received results from the MRI Eaves had today. "He's so stiff he can't move,'' Holland said. "He's out a minimum of a week.'' Holland said they won't be sure what the injury is until they get the MRI results but that Eaves is sore through the groin and lower body. Eaves was injured midway through the second period of Wednesday's 4-3 loss to San Jose when he checked Torrey Mitchell behind the Sharks net and their knees collided. Mursak getting another chance to show some stuff I guess but come Saturday we will probably have to send him back down again. Sounds like he's pretty banged up, with pain everywhere, so to be honest this break might be good for him in the long run. Hopefully we are bringing him back next year. not just next year, but long term... unless injured, there is no reason he should ever be scratched, his value cannot be quantified in pure stats and as I've said a million times, he is the type of player you win championships with. IMO he is a goal scorer, and paired with a play-maker, he could easily score 30 goals a year. agreed 100% about his ability, but I think as long as the Wings want him, he will come back - he's gone on record saying that he loves it here and it's not about money, I think the only thing the Wings need to do to keep him is give him a respectful contract (1.2 or higher a year for several years) and guarantee him playing time (no more of this healthy scratch crap) and he will remain in the Winged Wheel... I want him locked up long term, 3+ years and I wouldn't have a problem with the wings giving him upwards of a 5+ year deal(not that it's at all likely) - that's how confident I am in his play and work ethic Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I've been saying for awhile that he should be used on the left side, at the top of the circle on the PP (almost a Stamkos type role) and fire one timers - this also opens up your D better to cycle the puck, because the forwards have to respect the guy at the top of the circle and the D can't come out to him, because they open up down low if they do... as for 5v5, I think he's very good at the role he is in and would probably prefer he stay in the capacity he is (not that he couldn't be used in a bigger role), just add the PP minutes to his current responsibilities and I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility at all that he could become a 30 goal scorer... All of a sudden his determination and speed kick in as he rushes to get to a spot before they can. When he gets there, he then blocks a shot, deflects a pass or steals the puck, etc. You just think to yourself, "This guy gets it. Some of my friends earlier in the year thought that the Wings were definitely going to lose Eaves when he was on that scoring streak. They thought that Mursak, who is a good prospect in his own right, could take Eaves' spot next year and the 4th line wouldn't miss a beat. Earlier in the year I was somewhat in that camp (mostly because of the log jam the bottom six will have next year) but now not so much. I love Mursak but no way he'll be as good as Eaves next year. I know that sounds kind of extreme, but Patrick Eaves is a very good penalty killer, solid defensively, occasionally fights, doesn't make dumb plays and has a good wrist shot. I'd be very happy with a 2 or 3 year deal, but i'd think he deserves one or the other -- no more one year deals. and who honestly wouldn't want THIS on their team??
