Kronthewall55 14 Report post Posted February 16, 2010 so osgood slappies, i finally understand the logic: when osgood does bad, the defense is terrible. when howard does good, the defense is amazing, and howard is the only reason any goals go in..... oh and the one criticism anyone can find to make about howard is he makes too many saves??? i will take that over some slop show imfamous for letting in center ice goals any day
Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted February 16, 2010 Ahh, but I have not stated anything is objectionable about person 1 which is unrelated to this discussion. I have not called him a homer or even an Ozzie slappie (at least recently). I just think his exaggerations are born of Ozzie protectionism. Sort of like when a cornered dog goes on the attack. It no longer makes sense to ***** and whine about Babcock screwing Osgood etc. etc., so in the end it is about exaggerating Howards faults. Its cool I get it. To refresh your memory I said: "I think your Ozzie blinders skew your numbers." Or something close to that. I was being generous by not flat out stating that he pulled this little number fantasy out of his/her ass. Mostly because I agree rebound control is the weakest part of his game. Well. that and general puck-handling. But overall these are minor issues that have and will continue to improve as Howard gains experience. The bold right there is stating something objectionable about the guy. And calling someone out for having "Osgood blinders" is calling them a homer. Zack: Just out of curiosity where have I mentioned that as the sole basis for an argument? Since you have never attacked me or anyone else for being a "super duper Osgood homer" before, right? clutchngrab 12 Report post Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) The bold right there is stating something objectionable about the guy. And calling someone out for having "Osgood blinders" is calling them a homer. Let me rephrase. I believe the arbitrary nature of Outsiders 18 rebound number is motivated by his frustration with Osgood's status on the team. That may be less inflammatory, but essentially means the same thing. BTW, this is NOT an Ad Hominem by definition. The statement "I just think his exaggerations are born of Ozzie protectionism" is not an attack. Just a reasonable hypothesis. Outsiders long-winded posts speak for themselves. On the flip side. Why do you defend such an arbitrary and random statement based on complete subjectivity in the first place? I am simply stating my own opinion in this thread, without insulting you, attacking your credibility or voicing any type of frustration whatsoever. We both can respectively disagree on issues when the "X fan" or "X slappie" or "X hater" is removed from the equation. Worhless commentary. Not even close to a comparison as yours. Makes me feel special. Actually, you are correct. I don't want you to feel any more special than the average 19-22 year old liberal arts major at a second rate college that spends his time.... ahh nevermind. I'll remove your name from the sig - most regulars will know who it references anyway. Edited February 17, 2010 by clutchngrab

I'll remove your name from the sig - most regulars will know who it references anyway. I sincerely hope you don't think of me as the bolded, because you couldn't be further from the truth (but you wouldn't know me anyway, so it's easier to make judgments from a keyboard and attack than actually discuss or debate the issue at hand, right?) Can we get back on topic? Having you attack my character is fun and everything but it would be nice to have a discussion with people who don't automatically call you out for being a homer when you disagree with them on certain points. And honestly that's all I want. A good healthy discussion with other Wings fans about other issues. If you want to continue to act like I am a blubbering idiot and never back up those accusations then I will focus my attention to those who have honest intent to discuss the Red Wings and hockey on this DISCUSSION FORUM. Actually I'll go ahead and do it. At the start of the Olympic break Howard has shown he can consistently play above his head (at least what was originally thought of his "head" when the season started) and is right now the #1 contender to take the playoff reigns if the Wings happen to make it. It will be interesting to see how Babcock addresses the situation when the Olympics are over and Kenny makes a move before the deadline. Will he give Osgood more starts or keep going with Howard for 95% of the starts from here on out? My money is on Osgood starting against the Canucks (first home game of the month and Osgood has been better at home than on the road) and if he doesn't bring up his game then he will be benched for the rest of the year. Howard will play in the playoffs (assuming the Wings make it) and his real test will begin. Edited February 17, 2010 by Doc Holliday

titanium2 867 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 Not the best showing by Jimmy tonight. My response is similar to your response is to my post in the Eaves thread. You could say that about nearly the whole team. Babcock definitely said it.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 I'm just wondering if this will be the turning point for Babcock to start juggling goalies. He has always done it in the past and shown remarkable restraint this year. He's gotta be thinking about who the playoff goalie will be if we make the playoffs. Wonder who he's leaning toward? 1 Zeowingsfan reacted to this

bigEredwing 2 Report post Posted March 6, 2010 I have to say that Jimmy has been our most reliable player this year. If it wasnt for him, I strongly believe that we would not even be in the running for the playoffs due to all the injuries that have plagued us this year. I'm really hoping next year he doesnt have a sophmore slump and just continues to get better. I see a lot of potential in this kid and hopefully his play gets stronger. Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) Apparently Jimmy Howard is the most consistent goaltender in the NHL. http://blogs.thescore.com/nhl/2010/03/08/the-league%E2%80%99s-five-most-consistent-goalies-this-season/ Also, updated. This is the lowest Jimmy has been in save percentage and goals against in a while, although he is still top ten caliber in both categories. He has looked a bit shaky since the Olympic break, but fortunately the team in front of him has been solid enough to win.
