It's not the fact he let in two goals, it's the first softy he let in because his rebound control is like a ping pong ball bouncing off a ping pong table. That soft goal he let in changed the game. Wings were playing like a team on a mission, then his weak goal changed the momentum of the game.

We'll just have to accept the fact that Red wings wont be winning the cup the next two years unless Kenny gets rid of him or finds a real #1 goalie. Howard isn't a goalie that can get it done. He's the Bret Lebda of goalies...

I think Heaten has finally snapped, everyone.

My problem with Howard is that he plays his position like if was a pure stand up goalie. We know how aggressive Ozzie is, but he's more old school (the few left in the NHL). Meaning is more of a stand-up goalie. So being aggressive as Ozzie is, he is still on his skates, and can recover from a a rebound.

Howie...Howie challeges much more aggressive than Ozzie does! And he's in butterfly when he does it! So the challenge to the face off circle, butterfly and hope it hits you thing isn't working. Watch most of the good butterfly goalies, they play ontop of the crease.., so that can actually recover from a rebound. If you notice, when Howie is on his game...he's playing in the crease and kicking the rebounds to the corner. For some reason he thinks playing goalie in the face off circle will reaaaaly cut them angles off. Thing is, he's is own worst enemy. He's good for the first shot most of the time. Most. But after the first shot, he's trying to flop like a fish on the top of the face off circle hoping to pull a Hasek.

If he would just stay put in the crease like most butterfly goalies, I think he woulb be awesome. He has great reaction time with his kick saves. His glove hand is amazing. He's also pretty good with his blocker. His five-hole...ehhhhh, but every goalie has some type of weakness.

I hope they really re-work his game in the off-season. I really think he has potential.

He should pay a visit to the Michigan coach Osgood worked with prior to his fantastic 2007-08 Season.

Howard made some good saves against the offensive juggernaut Oilers team tonight. I think his biggest save he made tonight was that slot shot that was created from his HUGE ping-pong-like rebound. I notice he gets back to his net quicker after giving the puck away to the opposition... but not exactly fast enough, but Kronwall was there to save the goal.

Howard made a couple of great saves against the Oilers, but man he's a complete bonehead. I'll take one softies per game as long as he makes that clutch save at the pivotal point in the game. Difference tonight vs the Kings, is he made a key save against the Oilers. Against the Kings he failed to make that key save. I'll say overall, tonight he earned his money... even though he let in a softie that would make even Toskala laugh out loud.

I'll take one softie per game. But my confidence in our current goalie situation is at an all time low. Every time someone puts the puck near Howard... I close my eyes, cringe and prepare for the worse.

Are you serious? If so I feel sorry for you, I just saw the game and Im might be bias as I ******* have straight up man love for Howard but he made a half a dozen insane stops last nite. The Goalie situation should be one the last problems on your mind right now if you actually watched the game.

The soft goal stunk obviously, but he immediately picked up his play while most of the team was still dragging rear end for about half the game, gotta take the good with the bad, and the good outweighed the bad plenty yesterday at least with Howard.

I've never been one here to absurdly focus on goaltending here like other Wings fans do (at least perception wise, whether you think that is true or not that's up for you to decide). Last postseason, did Howard play all that great? No. Was he the major deciding factor of the Wings losing early in the postseason? Not really either. Much as will be the same this year. I don't think he'll rarely be the lone factor/major factor in the Wings losing a game or whatever, and hopefully you can get him to steal a game or two on occassion (which you can argue that was the case last night even though he let in a bad one early).

One thing I think is safe to say that you'll get from him, he's not going to get overly rattled, I don't think he did much last postseason.

What, like certain goals we've seen the Red Wings score on Bryzgalov, Luongo and other excellent goalies this season?

Your double standard grows daily. However, kudos for being able to take a break to actually compliment Howard, small though it was.

I was Howard's biggest supporter... but I'm losing faith in him. I gave him a pass last playoffs because he was a rookie, I gave him a pass because all the injuries, but lately the goals he given up has deflated the team. many goals he's given up weren't his fault. You can blame Salei, Ericsson, Kindl, Kronwall... and hell, even Lidstrom at times. But it's the stupid and bad timing goals he's given up that really bothers me. I understand goalies will have bad games, too. But he's having a bad season. And I wasn't that high on Howard before he cracked the NHL. I always viewed him as a streaky goalie that isn't starter material (until he proved me wrong last season). I'm not convinced he's a starter, or a goalie that can take this team to the finals/cup like Osgood has. -- I'm convinced last year was an overachievement.

And to the guy who thinks I don't "actually watch hockey games".

I haven't missed a DRWs game since lockout. My grandmother, who raised me, is in her death bed right now - the doctors are surprised she made it through the night lastnight. Guess what I did when I got home this morning at 2:30am after being with my grandma? I watched the DRWs game that I recorded on DVR. I'll be recording the game tonight and watching it tomorrow morning if my grandma is stabilized.

Maybe I am a worse grandson than I am a hockey fan, because I probably shouldn't even be thinking about hockey. But I need that mental vacation from my reality.

God forbid I criticize anyone on this team...

First of all I am sorry to hear about your grandmother, thats never easy. I didnt try to imply you didnt watch the games, you have always have impressed me with your knowledge of the game. I was however implying you were not watching the right parts of the game and focusing on Howards occasional brain fart is a waste of time. The team has not been playing focused (the whole team) some guys show up some nights and some dont, Howard shows up during the game and he drops the ball at times so to speak. The one good thing we should all be able to agree on is when he lets in a s***ty goal he tends to make some pretty incredible stops shortly there after and not getting rattled in the nhl is huge plus. Thus allowing the team in front of him to get back into the game, sometimes they do and sometimes they dont. The Wings will get back on track and Howie will not let them down.

The enforcer debate from the game against the Preds could only last so long.
