Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 17 games played 3 g, 2a for 5 pts +5 rating 16 shots, 18.75% Not too bad for a 4th liner brought in to just fill a roster spot. 14 games with Tampa Bay he was -3 with 0 pts. Maybe not to the same extent, but he reminds me alot of Dan Cleary when he got here. He plays and skates hard every shift and chips in with the odd point. Just something positive to look at from this year so far. Mr. Miller may have found a home in Detroit like so many players that just need a coach to give them a role. Feldmarschall 9 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 He's done a fantastic job, for sure. I'm hoping he sticks around if his play remains on this level. He's like Eaves with a poorer shot but more defensive aptitude, and he's a surprisingly adept stickhandler in close. He's a very smart, hard-working player. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 I have wanted Drew Miller on the Wings since he was playing in Anaheim's top six a couple of seasons back. Great all-around skill, just needs opportunity.
mmamolo 287 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 I think he has far exceeded expectations and earned a roster spot. Unfortuantely when everyone comes back that may not be the case. Persaonlly, I would hate to see him go because he has shown what tremendous upside he has. I realyl think if he stuck around here he could develop into a very solid part of this team. Yeah he's been a pleasant surprise. His stats would average out to a 14g 10a 24pt season over a full 82 games, which is excellent for a 4th liner. Here are some more key stats: Hits: 36 in 17 games (avg ~2 per game) <-- Only Helm, Eaves and Abdelkader have a better average among forwards Blocks: 6 in 17 games (should be averaging more. I'd like to see at least 1 per game, although no one else on the team averages 1 block per game, so maybe that's unrealistic)
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 I just wanted to note that I don't think Miller has the scoring upside that Cleary had coming into Detroit. A guy like Eaves better suits that comparison. Miller's scoring upside is similar to a guy like Malty or Draper's.
Guest Lidstromboli Report post Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) any stat on how many pp goals have been scored against when he's on the PK? Edited December 17, 2009 by Lidstromboli
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 any stat on how many pp goals have been scored against when he's on the PK? Unfortunately I don't have access to those stats. They definitely aren't on the NHL.com site. I know they do exist because Bruce MacLeod has did the statistical analysis of individual players on the PK earlier in the year. Yellowknife Redwing 57 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 Miller and Eaves have outperformed Helm and Abdelkader all year long. I would really like to see these guys extended for at least another year at a similar cap number.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 any stat on how many pp goals have been scored against when he's on the PK? Yes, right here. Right now the answer is one. Certainly impressive, but his total SHTOI is considerably less than all other PKing regulars (as it would be considering he was acquired a month into the season). WorkingOvertime 536 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) Miller and Eaves have outperformed Helm and Abdelkader all year long. I would really like to see these guys extended for at least another year at a similar cap number. Miller has been a nice surprise this year, but I don't think he has outperformed either of these players. He has outperformed most expectations, but I think he has been close to on par with Helm and Abby. You have to remember that Abby and Helm were playing less minutes earlier in the season and thus weren't as effective as they are now (with the injuries). None of these players are projected to be great scorers, so it's also important to look at stats other than goals, assists, shooting percentage, etc (not to say they aren't important). Shady Ultima 40 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 As I've been saying, Miller, Eaves and Helm would make a wicked line, and be a rebirth of the classic grind line of Draper, Maltby and Mac. They're all fast, they come as a scoring threat, and they're all defensively sound.

titanium2 867 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 The blue sticks of his are kind of odd looking with all that red. Eaves used to have blue ones too. Right now both him and Eaves have the same amount of goals this season. Good stuff.
Guest zackmorris Report post Posted December 18, 2009 Miller is exactly what we need in a 3rd/4th liner. These types of guys that other teams pass on, complete teams like ours. Drew Miller and Patrick Eaves in the playoffs will cause linematching headaches for opposing coaches.
Carman 387 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 Miller/Eaves have been my favorite story so far this year. I hope we've found a couple solid players for our bottom 6 for years to come.
Lazerbeam 13 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 Miller has really helped our Penalty Killing unit and when we get healthy again, I think Leino will be one of the odd men out of the lineup--there is no way I would sit Eaves and or Miller for Leino right now!
