Lidstrom's Next Contract

Just curious if anyone has heard what Lidstrom is expected to sign for, I was just going over our cap space at nhlnumbers.com and it'll be pivotal whether or not the the Wings will look to bolster their offence or goaltending following this season.

Thanks, and sorry in advance if this has already been discussed!

I would be sad to see Lidstrom retire but I hope he hangs them up. If he wants to play another year I hope it's for under $1.5 - $2 million. I'll probably get blasted for saying that, but that's my opinion.

I would hate to think it would be what he is making now. But I wouldn't want to base it on what we are seeing on the ice right now either. He deserves more than that type of reaction when it comes to negotiating salary for arguably the best defensemen to play the game. I hope it's a fair amount that doesn't handcuff this team.

Yeah, you deserve it -- that's utterly stupid.

I don't want him to, but I kind of have a feeling he might retire after this season. Everyone just assumes he's gonna resign for less but it is VERY obvious his arm is in some pretty bad pain, he won't shoot the puck, ever and even when he does, he doesn't seem to get everything on it. So with the pain, his age, etc, I wouldn't be too surprised if he hung em up. Let's hope he doesn't though because even showing signs of being human, he is still better than 95 percent of the nhl on the blueline....or more.

I agree. I would be sad to see him retire too but even sadder to see him being forced to retire.

I expect him to sign for "Ok guy's, it's been fun! See ya later".

He should however be resigned for about $6-7million per season.

Yeah that was my point but got blasted as I predicted I would. It would nice to see Lidstrom retire on top. If he took a huge salary cut and left more money for Holland to find skilled players, Wings could win the cup (or make it to the finals) in 2011, and Lidstrom could retire on top.

My suggestion that he retires this year is based on his elbow tendonitis, which seems to be really ailing him. He's struggling to shoot the puck, I'm sure he's in tremendous pain. I have a feeling he retires -- I'm getting the feeling he's playing this year to complete his contract.

The man is 40 and had the best career than any NHL player could ask for. He's not Chelios.

I don't agree with what seems to be the prevailing sentiment around here that Lidstrom deserves ANOTHER big payday for past accomplishments. He's already been paid for that. And paid EXTREMELY well, I might add.

If this season is a snap-shot of what we can expect from him in the near future... I hope he retires.

Agreed with both posters. There are really dumb posters on LGW.

Lids deserves every penny.

1% shooting percentage doesn't deserve anything above 3 mill.

He can't play anymore, so he should retire or take next to nothing. We need the cash for a healthy defensive quarterback, a friend for Leino and someone for Datsyuk to have chemistry with.

Fixed. :P
