Give Thanks for Injuries

I have to admit, when the injuries started to pile up I was getting fairly upset and was about to give up on the season. However, I think the injuries could be the best thing that could have happened to us. We have always had such a deep system that hasn't allowed for the youngsters to play much, but this has allowed ample (and valuable) playing time for several of the young guys. It has also allowed for a rejuvination for some guys (Bertuzzi for example). Another aspect where it may help us is the fact that the guys that are injured will be back soon enough to shake off the rust for the playoffs, but will be more rested than notmal (I realize that rehab is tough, but not nearly as tough as taking hits every night). I have confidence that we will rise in the standings as more and more guys come back into the fold and we will make the playoffs, but now we have a solid goaltending tandem and lots more experienced depth, not to menition the best coach in the league. I like how this team is shaping up personally, let me know your thoughts.

I will never be thankful for injuries, but I'm thankful for the way the team has fought through them. Maintaining .500 hockey was crucial until we could get our guys back and start winning.

Howard has been more than a little part of that, and I'm very impressed with him.

I couldn't agree more with your post. I am excited to start getting guys back, and hopefully the team will make a deep run in the playoffs.

The only downside is I'm sure all the injuries are really taking a toll on Lidstrom and Datsyuk. They are eating up the minutes out there. Also, Franzen might never be the same after getting his knee reconstructed.

Assuming there is no lasting damage (which they could be, especially in Franzen's case), some of these guys got some much needed rest after all the long post-season runs, and could come back and light it up.
