Pretty soon - Who are the THREE odd men out?

I think we all know how Babcock is starting to feel on the subject.

I think Babcock has always liked players like May (and hated players like Leino). It's more Holland that thinks the opposite.

That's my impression anyways.

Babcock seems to like the hard working/grinding/physical type players who go to hard areas.

It's gone so far with Leino that the only ones who defend him on this board are his countrymen, the finns...lol

It's too bad that his talent goes to waste because there's no effort. Until he is willing to pay his dues nothing is going to change and he will be shown the door. And rightfully so, I'm not going to give him any benefit of the doubt because he's Finnish. If he's not ready to fight for the Red Wings, he's not my kind of player and I don't want him on this team.

Bravo, sir. I know that it must be cool to see one of your countrymen on the Wings, that's something that the Cannadiens and Americans, Russians and Swedes on this board probably take for granted. In the end, guys on the Wings have to bring something the Wings need. I'm sure some Finns would. I don't think Leino does. I wanted to see him find a niche here, but I don't think he will.

Do you guys seriously think there going to dump Leino after his frist FULL season?

If you havn't realized yet almost our whole team has been bad, but then again almost all our starters were injuried, so how do you even THINK to let him go when this year has been Detroit's worst season in awhile?

I mean lets get serious here, almost every player that has came to Detroit for there first season (with some exceptions)have been either sub-par or bad.

You guys expect WAYY to much out of Leino to begin with.

Give Leino time , changed dont happen overnight.

NO I AM NOT FINNISH. So f off.

Is it because Leino is on a one way contract that he can't be sent down? He was playing for G.R. last year on the same contract so I'm confused why he would have to be waived if sent down.

Leino isn't going anywhere. He's had 1/2 season in the NHL and hasn't adjusted well. No way the Wings are going to give up on a guy with his talent after only 1/2 season.

May is 38 and brings nothing more than Aaron Downey or DMac brought last year. If he could score a goal or rack up a helper once in awhile, he'd be worth keeping but that's not his MO.

May is out, Miller is out and Abby will be sent back down because he can be without exposure to waivers.

And Janik will be sent back down when Ericsson and Kronwall return.

You don't have to get rid of Miller if you do like you said with the others. We need to waive/trade/send down three guys. Abdelkader can be sent down. Then Janik and May as you said. That's enough. Although I may not agree losing Janik.

I'm actually very positive about Detroit and our players.

I could take back the "bad" part because to be honest almost all of our starters had been injured.

Im not one of those fans that cry because players arent playing amazing.

It's too soon to give up on Leino. He probably won't clear waivers. Brunnstrom is likely to be less of a bust, but he may be out of reach, perhaps try and trade Leino and Lebda :), straight up, or something. But other then that, give him a bit more time. Send Aby down, since he'll clear waivers, and trade who won't clear waivers for picks.

Important to remember that we can recall guys in the playoffs, it's not like these 3 players will be gone for the rest of the season, but don't risk losing anyone through waivers.

Miller-Filppula-Cleary line was very good tonight!

See ya later Leino....

Wow... lines will look very good when all are back.

Homer-Datsyuk-Franzen

Williams-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi

Miller-Filppula-Cleary

Draper-Helm-Eaves

BEST 3rd and 4th lines in the league

Seriously, if Lilja isn't coming back, then waive Lebda or Meech and keep Janik. We need guys that know how to play D and have some grit.

How is it that he went 5g 4a 9pts in his first 13 NHL games playing on a line with Maltby and Draper last year? Were those 13 games special non-contact easy skating games? How is it that he was a point per game player in the preseason with only Datsyuk out-producing him?

Perhaps this isn't a case of someone who's missing a fundamental element of the NHL game and rather it's a case of a guy who's struggling and has zero confidence. We knew he'd be a boom or bust prospect when Holland signed him. Leino has no use on a checking line-- he never has. No one should've thought he'd be a productive checking line player. If Leino's not producing points he's useless. This year he's struggled to produce and thus he's been an epic fail so far.

I can't help but chuckle at the people (and this isn't directed just at you) who think they have Leino all figured out and act like he's got no upside. Apparently these people think they know more than Holland does about prospects because it seems that they think they had Leino pegged all along. Of course they're quick to forget Leino's success coming into this season. They're seeing a rookie at this absolute lowest point and behaving as if he's dragging this team down and he's a huge failure. Here's a shocker-- Leino was not a draft pick. He was not developed by the Wings-- he only played in the AHL for one season. He's cost the organization virtually nothing in terms of resources so if he fails it will hardly be a huge blow to the Wings.

Finally, even though he is playing like s*** he's not the source of the Wings' ills. He's not even remotely close to being responsible for the s***ty scoring right now. Look at Lidstrom, Rafalski, Datsyuk and Zetterberg-- none of them have performed up to expectation and all of them make at least 6 million dollars each. Zetterberg's goal total is horrible by his standards. Datsyuk's on pace for his worst season since his rookie year and Lidstrom's on pace for his worst season since the lockout. It's laughable how much s*** is thrown in Leino's face when he's a complimentary winger and a f***in' $800,000 a year rookie. Go ahead people-- s*** on Leino and pretend that the guys who make the real money and wear the letters on their chests aren't to blame.

Right on Brother.

Thanks a lot guys. :)

I hope Leino gets his head around the fact that he must earn his keep and there are no freebies, especially in an organization like the Red Wings. He only needs to look as far as his countryman Flip who has worked hard and developed leaps and bounds as a hockey player since leaving Finland. Leino can make it if he really wants to but he has to admit that the problem is his work rate, not his scoring. You cannot learn a thing you think you know. Get your chin up and your hands dirty Ville!

I don't think one good game is enough to change anything. Leino has had several good games last season and at the beginning of this season.

Bingo!!!

Ville has all the tools, but they are sitting on the work bench collecting dust... Flip, man I love Flip... He is determined and works when he is on the ice, that is all I ask for...

I cannot agree with this statment more.... if he gets his head down and gets some strength his skill set could make him into a good player. It's just when he's touched he cannot control himself.

We can only hope he knows this too.
