Canadians rarely take Canada seriously, and all Cherry tries to do is remind us that we do have our own history, we do have our own identity and we do have lots to be proud of as a Country.
It seems like Every Single American can boast about how much greater they are than everybody else, and if you don't say that, you're not Patriotic. The second someone from another country talks about their accomplishments, they get Bashed.
Can you prove american soldiers were better than Canadian soldiers in WW2? In history classes growing up, did you learn about Canada's involvement in the War? did you learn about the battles we were in, and the battles that were won because of us? I understand US dropped the bomb to end/win the war. I'm not saying either side was better than the other, but before you go and get offended that someone claims that they did more than your army in a certain war, make sure you know all the facts from both sides.
So, Canadians don't take Canada seriously, and it's the fault of the Americans? And this thread is about (allegedly) a Canadian bashing an American accomplishment. And why do you capitalize random words?

Many of you are not living in Canada so you may not have seen the papers but Don Cherry was responding to the Canadian Media's comments. The Canadian media came out after the US team won gold (Congrats by the way, that was a great game) and made the claim that this gold medal was proof that Canadian hockey development is on a downward trend. Papers started claiming that Canadian development needs to be totally revamped so that we can produce better players since right now we are failures.
Don made the point that the US Team played great, he even mentions some of the players by name for this. He then comments that Canada does not need to revamp the development system, and proceeds to show that we have many amazing players who are of eligible age to enter the tournament but are key components of their professional teams. He was not knocking US Hockey, the US Team, or making excuses. He was speaking to the Canadian media and the people who were claiming that the Canadian development system needs to be overhauled. The US system is doing great (kudos we need this), but he was reminding the panic inducing hockey world in Canada that our development system is just fine. We won the silver in overtime (could have been anyone's game at that point), and we are still producing some awesome NHL talent.
USA Hockey Development is doing great and have now won 2 golds at the Jr's, which is awesome. In order for hockey to be successful in the US we need great American players to show the younger generation that it is possible to succeed.

Wow, Way to Summarize how the rest of the world feels about 2 thirds of the americans on TV that are the Same way. 66% of american is exactly this way. We've got 1 guy.
Why do I Capitalize random words?
don't know, habit.
Canada does have an inferiority complex. Especially when comparing itself to America. It's not the US's Fault, it's ours. Don's point is that we should be proud of who we are, and what we've done, and the fact is, not many Canadians really know all that much about what we've done. Canadian history isn't nearly as emphasized in Schools as American history. Canadian Pride isn't taught/bred over here nearly as much as it is over there. It's not your fault.
How many people even know about the War between Windsor and Detroit? in the 1800's Detroit was constantly attacking and trying to take over Windsor/Sandwich through Amherstberg. We defended time and time again, stationing at fort Malden.
These Battles were not covered at any school I went to. Were they covered in Detroit schools? Probably not, because It was a battle that Canada won. I live right next to this great, historical battle field....you'd think the schools around here would make a bigger deal out of it.
I'd imagine that when you guys in the US Study World War 2, the main emphasis is on The US's involvement, and you're pretty much told the war was going on, and then US came in, swept up, whooped some ass and won the thing.
In Canada, we spend equal time learning about hte cause of the war, the background behind it, the involvement of Every Country, and about every battle.
All Don cherry tires to do is to tell Canadians, you live in a great Country, get your head up and get over this inferiority complex we have. He wants us all to Wave a Canadian Flag in our front lawn, get behind our own military, and have the mindset that we live in the Greatest country in the world.
Kind of sounds like the philosophy of someone very close to us.
You wanna know why the world hates US so much? Because Everytime someone turns on American TV, all they see is one American Don Cherry after another. Now you know what it's like to hear someone from another country talk about nothing other than how they're the Greatest country in the world.
I personally don't hate America. I love living in Windsor, just so I can go over the border and Go to Wings/Lions/Tigers games. I love that I'm close enought to get all the American TV channels. I wish out country was as patriotic as yours. I love the 50 different Identities all of your states each have. I love going down to Texas and Seeing the Texas Pride everyone has. I love going to New York, and seeing the New york Pride that everyone has. I also love when someone from My Country shows that Same Pride in My Country.

You are imagining quitef****** wrong.
Also, your War between Windsor and Detroit... that's the War of 1812. We were fighting Britain, not Canada. While this war is not covered in too much detail (more so because it changed almost nothing), at least in our crappy American schools, we learn who the combatants were.

This is true, but nothing like that should have been said during an interview. Was this on live radio or television or just something someone happened to pick up at random?

Cherry did not want to be interviewed and I believe they were recording and he wasn't aware of that. He could handled it in a better way but according to the head of CBC sports the reporter was being very aggresive towards Cherry who did not want to talk.
I think I would freak out too. lol.

This is no great innovation. Whenever a team loses, its fans make excuses because its easier to do that than to man up.
I don't give two flying f***s that a bunch of Canada's top players are in the NHL and couldn't play in this tournament. They're NHLers now, so stop complaining that you can't have yourf****** cake and eat it too.

Sadly, WWII isn't really discussed all that much in our schools. At least that's what I remember. I did graduate from high school in 1995 though so maybe things have changed.
Anyway, I am an avid WWII buff. I'd be more than happy to discuss our role vs that of our bros. to the North.
In simple hockey terms, Canada would have been a 3rd line role player compared to the United States.
Here's 2 numbers for you 40,000+ and 400,000+
If you really want to get into this send me a private message.

We must be reading different books with figures you just threw out there. You call your self a buff? The + is the only part of those figures that makes sense unless you are talking deaths.
