Guest VAL FILPPULA Report post Posted January 11, 2010 ESPN Insider said that Hudler may be returning to the Wings next season. I thought that Hudler had a 2 year contract with the KHL so I don't know what to make of this. Anyone hear anything?
Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 Pretty sure he's got an "opt out" clause in his contract.

luvmnger 125 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 come on....huds was good ....most of the time.... remember everyone...it samuelsson we dont want back. it also tells everyone in the league that the money doesn't fix-all for the KHL organization. good news (if it happens) for the NHL. Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) If he comes back I hope we trade him (I'm sure he'd be good trade bait, esp if included in a larger deal). He is a good player and his cap hit isn't bad but I'd rather spend the money we have on a bonafide second liner scorer. Broken 16 381 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 Starting to look more and more like Kenny is using the KHL as his personal player shelter. Way to go Kenny!
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 He may or may not. No real news. Lidstrom may or may or not come back next year. No real news. The words I'm more concerned with are "will" and "won't"
Bad Vlad Forever 1 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 he took stupid penalties at key moments, but at the same time, he could bury the puck too. with our PK unit looking really good right now, i'd definitely welcome his goal productivity and speed back. Seriously the amount Hudler is underated here is ridiculous.

Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 There is a reason he's only making 2.75. He's great on the PP but won't perform on the second line.

Anything for our PP would be a welcome addiction. Sub 3Mil cap hit a year with 50+ points and 20+ goals, sign me up!!

Cern 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 There is a reason he's only making 2.75. He's great on the PP but won't perform on the second line. Have you SEEN our power play recently? "Great on the PP" should spark serious consideration in and of itself. That said, I'd wait and see how the offseason pans out. Lidstrom's career is possibly up in the air, and we have a handful of one-year deals to sort through. If there's room for him, though, why not?
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) If there's room for him, though, why not? Because it would be at the expense of better players the wings could sign to the second line. Namely Frolov. Cern 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) Because it would be at the expense of better palyers the wings could sing to the second line. Namely Frolov. I see the two sentences preceding the one you quoted flew clean over your head. I'll say it again; see how the offseason pans out, assess who's on the roster and who left, and reaquire Hudler if there's space. If Frolov is a free agent acquisition (which I find doubtful but for the sake of argument say it does happen), I doubt there's going to be the cap space for Hudler anyway. If the management can somehow justify requiring damaged goods like Williams, why is Hudler so improbable? Edited January 11, 2010 by Cern
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 It's sad how many pedestrian players are getting paid huge amounts of money that a guy like Hudler at 2.8 is a "good" deal. New NHL for ya, jesus. In anycase, got no time for Hudler. We could've used those PP goals and healthy season over here you jackass, I hope the hookers are doing you well. Thumbs down to Frolov as well, what do he and Leino have in common? They've both been benched for lazy unmotivated play this year. What else do they have in common? Hopefully neither is on the Wings next year. I'd rather spend the money on a guy that can score goals but is a tireless worker as well, that's what we need. (And a healthier roster..) 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 Had we known last summer how many injuries we'd have this year, we almost could have signed Huds for what he was worth. Since we couldn't, we didn't. Instead we stashed him in the minors without him having to clear waivers, for all intents and purposes. He'll be back when we have cap space for him.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 I'm not saying it won't happen, just that I don't want it to. Hudler could decide to come back before any free agents are even obtainable (ie before July 1st). It's not a one way street for Hulder you know, if he decides to come back the wings have to honor his contract just as much as he does. So if hudler wants to come back, it's either not sign any good free agents or trade him. I'm hoping for the latter.

Leino is damn near out of the lineup, Frolov was benched one game; no comparison. He has 27 points on the season (more than all but 2 of our players) and is a 20 goal scorer. He would be a great addition to our 2nd line and could probably be signed for 3.5-4m. I'd take him. Edited January 11, 2010 by Z and D for the C

miller76 463 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 It would be crazy not to welcome Huds back at his salary and ability. He knows the Red Wings system, which is known as being a completely different system, as well as a complex one. Bertuzzi said that was one of the reasons he struggled his first go a round with the Wings.

Anyone hear anything? holland said in an article on mlive that hudler called to "wish him a happy new year" and said he didnt know what he was going to do next season. id say the odds are slightly in favor of a return next season. i mean, whats he doing calling holland to wish him a happy new year if hes happy in the khl!?
