So Gainey has decided to buy out laraque by seasons end, he will not play for the rest of the year

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=307080

I would really hope/imagine that they will at least waive him and then send him through re-entry waivers if needed to give him a chance to play somewhere else, even in the AHL if he's not claimed and chooses too... if not, VERY low class...

He doesn't really fit in MTL anyway... I could really see a team like Atlanta using him, not only for enforcing abilities, but PR, as he is a GREAT team guy and really wins over a fanbase...

I still thought had he come here 3 years ago, he would've been an amazing fit, unfortunately, we don't really have a need for him anymore and he's not worth the price tag here...

what's low class about this anyway?

if laraque wants to play in the AHL or some other team he can gladly wave the stupid NMC he supposedly has

IF - it doesn't say anything about them waiving him, or even giving him the option... the story makes it look more like they are going to basically just sit him out for the remainder of the year and not give him a chance to play for another team...

it's basically him being a healthy scratch for the rest of the year and then bought out. The guy can play, and kronwall hit aside i've always liked him. Im sure there is many teams out there that would love to have him and this is a ***** move by martin and gainey. At the least they could just try and trade him for basically nothing or waive him so he can still play.....

he averages like 5 goals a year when he actually gets to play.

Exactly... that's good for an enforcer... like I said, his price tag is a little high, but Colton Orr makes a mil a season and averages .5 goals a year...

I never said he'd be a 2nd line sniper...

and they'd save cap space that way too... if the story means that(which it sounds like from the way it's written) it is very low class...

Yeah, I still hate the bastard too for that Kronwall hit.

We've had many injuries this year, but that was the worst one, because it was intentional.

Holy s***, his average is better than Lids' projection is for this year, with way less icetime.

Kenny!!

I'm one of the few fans of rough and tumble hockley that still likes Laraque. I like his frankness, I like his community involvement, and I like his game. sure, I wish he'd fight a bit more, but I wish a lot of guys would fight a bit more. Laraque is skilled enough that he played a few games on the 1st line in the playoffs last year - while he didn't exactly shine in that role, he played as well as most 4th liners would have if stuck on a scoring line. If moneu was no object, I'd dump May for Laraque in a heartbeat - Laraque is better at everything than May is.

listen, I'm as much of a Laraque supporter as the next guy, but May has better wheels AND hands(scoring/passing wise) than Laraque...

They likely found someone more useful than him anyways. Whatever the case, hope their problem gets solved.

This is moronic. What did Gainey expect he was getting when he signed Laraque? I don't see how George is playing outside he normal style or capability.

Honestly this is just asinine. Let the man play out the rest of the season or trade him. Don't tell him you're sitting him for the rest of the year and buying his contract out at season's end.

Ridiculous.

This could be why the Habs have not had a decent face they could associate with their team in a long time. Sorry Koivu. Just horrendous decisions by that franchise.
