Umm, how about no hits to the head. Is it really that hard? And while you're at it, take out the ticky-tack hooking penalties for good measure.

I don't have one bit of faith that Doucheman will solve this problem, but at very least, the NHL isn't being knee-jerk about this, and isn't jumping to institute more rules in the game at the pace of outraged people, a group I'm part of. If it's possible to help drive down hits to the head, I'd like to see them try something that doesn't include more rules. At very least, they're learning from the No Fun League in those regards. As it is, hits to the head shouldn't be legal with the current rules, and is usually enforced in the sense of intent to injure, roughing, charging, whatever. We know over the years how, in the sense of obstruction, clutching-and-grabbing, holding, interference, whatever, it was always against the rules, but it was never enforced for years, then suddenly they flipped on the switch and decided to start enforcing it. I pretty much see something like this happening if they are seriously going to go after it.

No, no, I think he was saying that solving all the problems caused when he was dropped on his head as a child will take time to fix. Head shots in the NHL? Pshaw. Who's worried?

How much time does it take to issue a memorandum saying hits to the head are banned, and anyone found in violation of that will be suspended without pay for however long the person they hit is out of commission? The person you hit is out for the year? So are you.

I know it's not a hit to the head, but I'm sure you guys saw that Sutton hit on Dupuis the other night. That thing was nasty, and there have been similar hits/injuries like once a week all season. The hits from behind NEEEED to be addressed and taken care of as well. Someone is going to end up with a broken neck.

A rule outlawing hits to the head in the NHL will go back under the microscope Friday as the competition committee sits down for a meeting.

The 10-man committee comprised of players, general managers and Philadelphia Flyers owner Ed Snider will look to get consensus on a new rule that could be enacted for next season.

The issue has been debated for over a year following a proposal from the NHL Players' Association that all hits to the head be penalized. The league's 30 GMs were originally cool to the idea, but a series of on-ice incidents this season prompted them to recommend a penalty for blindside head hits at the end of their annual meetings in March.

The competition committee will look to define the specific framework for the rule.

Why is this even an issue? Get rid of the cheap hits and the only headshots you will have left are the clean ones that nobody can ***** about. And cheap hits will never leave, instigator or not. Although it is weird that most guys start fights after clean this now rather than dirty ones.

Saying that it would take time to remove hits to the head is accurate, whether it's a penalty or not.

Removing the instigator won't do it, I mean cheap shots definitely didn't exist before the instigator was put in place. Ask Pierre Turgeon about that.

Taking time to remove=won't go away right away.

Cross checking, slashing, tripping, high sticking, interference, boarding? Do these things still happen? You bet they do. "But, but those are all penalized!" Yeah, so? "Take the instigator away, that'll get rid of them!" Cause they didn't happen before the instigator penalty was in place? Riiiiiiiiiight.

Never said there wasn't cheapshots before the instigator.But it made guys think twice before throwing cheapshots such as Cooke on Savard and Richards on booth.Of course cheapshots are gonna always be a part of the game.Take the instigator out and it makes the pricks like Cooke more accountable for the cheap shots they dish out.

How time consuming is applying stiff penalties to head shots? I'll be pissed if they don't keep the new penalty added in the playoffs for blatant head hunting.
