Kira 451 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 If Lils goes to GR for a rehab stint, that means I might be able to see him when I go on Feb. 6th to watch them. Now THAT would be worth it!
FinWing 26 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 This is great news and pretty much out of left field, I had sort of given up on Lilja ever playing again. I guess we were due a positive surprise.

hooon 1,089 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Lol at him getting run at by Mule... I think its great that he's this close... but I can't help but cringe a little when our two best injured players are taking runs at each other before they are 100% healthy. Great news though! titanium2 867 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 So how does this GR conditioning stint work for Lils? His salary comes off the books in this case?
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 LILJA IS CLEARED FOR CONTACT!!! lilja crazy having the biggest guy run him..damn I guess he's serious about coming back. I mean he could've started with Meech and worked his way up to Franzen.
KATIEBARTHEDOOR24 426 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 just keep him away from Lebda

Call me jaded, but since I read the report yesterday, on day 13, I was worried all day about reading something about a setback... this is AMAZING news... I cannot wait to see number 3 out there again!!!!
sherwood40 16 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) Now that would make some really good guys on defense. Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Ericsson-Lijla Edited January 26, 2010 by sherwood40
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Now that would make some really good guys on defense. Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Ericsson-Lijla Lilja is just the steadying force Ericsson needs to settle in too, he can join the rush more and go back to being an offensive d-man... look how much better he looked when paired with Janik... I cannot wait to see and Ericsson-Lilja pairing...

stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 i expect a trade in the coming days if lilja is this close. THis is great news as I've said all year - Come seasons end, one of, if not both, Meech and/or Lebda will not be Red Wings...
hoogs 8 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 I think you guys are over hyping Lilja a bit here. He is solid, but not much more than that. On the other hand he is a huge upgrade over Lebda.

Exactly. He is a good 6th defenseman, and really makes our defensive pairings look outstanding. I don't think he's being over-hyped at all, plus it's just good to see Lilja back. I thought his career may have been done.

I used to think the same. Last season he turned into a solid shut down guy. I will be pumped to see him return if things continue to go in his favour. Kira 451 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 The day I see him out there on the ice, I think I'll be doing a happy dance. Say what you want, but there isn't very many guys out there right now who will block shots as well as he does. This is something we've been missing big time. To see him out there and blocking shots again will definitely be a boost. And I have to believe that having all the healthy bodies back will be a psychological pickup as well. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 I think you guys are over hyping Lilja a bit here. He is solid, but not much more than that. On the other hand he is a huge upgrade over Lebda. Lebda and Ericsson, or Lebda and anyone, has been such a disaster as the third pairing; they've been on the ice for tons of goals proportional to their ice time, nearly as much Lidstrom despite playing hundreds of fewer minutes against weaker opposition. Getting a steady, responsible, stay at home defenseman in there really is enormous. Fingers crossed that everything goes according to plan.
