jollymania 162 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 just keep him away from Lebda this is still the most important factor, can't we just waive him already?
Rufio 29 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Define "works." If you want your nerves stunned so you don't feel pain for a little while, then go to a chiropractor. But don't expect a resolution of pathology. So if you think it "works," I have to respectfully disagree. As for the Pain Train! I remember the day Kenny said the contract was drafted and Lilja just had to sign it. I ran around southeast Michigan hiding pens. For that, I apologize. I can't wait to see #3 on the ice. I would love to see him run a Penguin over this weekend. HAHAHA!!
10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 lol people actually think lilja who hasnt played in almost a FULL year, is actually going to be productive? like i mean, lebda sucks and all, but lilja isnt going to be any better.
Rick Zombos Ghost 82 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 by the end of this thread we are going to retire his number and send him to the HOF. he was an ok 6th defenseman who was frequently scratched in favor of lebda. Im happy hes coming back and everything cause he can certainly play a role but lets not overstate his worth. I think it has to do with the fact we just havnt had much/any good news so we will take what we can.

It seems emotion and Stanley Cup nostalgia are playing a big part in many Wings fans' evaluation of the impact Lilja's return will have. When he was healthy in '07, you needed more hands and feet to count his turnovers in some games. He's just taken a year off, I wonder how far his timing will be off. People were really starting to come around to Lilja last season. He really is a solid 3rd pairing guy, and then the fact that he was willing to drop the gloves every now and then and you can understand why people are glad he's coming back. Obviously we're probably gonna lose that whole fighting aspect though. But you're right, definitely don't expect him to be his old self right away. action jackson 6 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) Lebda and Ericsson, or Lebda and anyone, has been such a disaster as the third pairing; they've been on the ice for tons of goals proportional to their ice time, nearly as much Lidstrom despite playing hundreds of fewer minutes against weaker opposition. Getting a steady, responsible, stay at home defenseman in there really is enormous. Fingers crossed that everything goes according to plan. WRONG with Lebda I think Ericsson is the problem, regardless who his partner is Name ES TOI Team GA ES TOI/TeamGA Lidstrom 938 42 22,3 Stuart 948 62 15,3 Rafalski 878 34 25,8 Lebda 721 31 23,3 Ericsson 569 46 12,4 Meech 416 16 26,0 Kronwall 346 17 20,4 Janik 156 7 22,4 Kindl 30 2 15,0 Edited January 26, 2010 by action jackson

Yeah, I neglected to mention his clear improvement in 07/08 (particularly in the playoffs) but for the point I was making, I found it would be irrelevant. But indeed there was a solid 12 months of great value to the team. His shot-blocking in particular was very important for our PK. He seems to be a natural at that, but I can foresee a lot of turnovers early on and I think the love and admiration for Andreas displayed here at LGW might decline quickly. ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Lilja was playing great hockey leading up to his injury. He's not gonna have his game right away but considering the way he plays - big body, blocking shots, strong defense - he should get back up to speed pretty quickly. If he can continue playing the way he was before he got hurt, he's going to be a huge improvement over Lebda or Meech as our #6 defenseman. There is no question about that. 10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Lilja won't even be in proper shape this season. It takes a long time to recover from being off for that long especially with what he had to deal with. Alot of the time he couldn't even work out. Lilja had a good 3 month stretch or so. Before that he was a turnover machine, and the one who was hated instead of Lebda. Lilja isn't anything special. Also, at this point Lebda (yes) is a better option. Could be he'll be out of shape, but it really depends on how much he's been working out with the Wings. I had the feeling that it was most of the stuff they normally do, short of being hit. That's got to help his conditioning right there. It'll be the timing thing probably, more than anything.
Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Lilja is just the steadying force Ericsson needs to settle in too, he can join the rush more and go back to being an offensive d-man... look how much better he looked when paired with Janik... I cannot wait to see and Ericsson-Lilja pairing... I was just going to post this. I think Lilja's stay-at-home style is just what Ericsson needs to become more comfortable with his game. Have you seen him with his shirt off? He's always in shape. He doesn't even need to work out. BTW, your man love for Lebda is quite disturbing. Don't know how you can say he's a better option than Lilja. Suicide is probably a better option than seeing Lebda out there bumbling around all the time. Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Also, I wonder what a healthy Lilja means for next season, especially with Kindl no longer being waiver eligible. Maybe rotating time between Lilja, Ericsson and Kindl? Unless Lidstrom retires, I don't know what else they might do. P.S.: THE PAIN TRAIN COMETH.
