Basically, if Datsyuk doesn't score, we lose the shootout... and if he does, we got about a 50/50 chance.

Shootouts aref****** lame. I'd feel that way if we were winning them all the time or losing them all the time.

As long as Pittsburgh excels at them, they're here to stay. The moment they start to struggle, THEN the league might consider a change. tongue.gif

Should have had OZZIE in for the shootout. He would have pwned crobsy and malkin!

Put Lidstrom in on the shootout, à la Zdeno Chara. Just have him rip a shot from like 10 feet away.

Nick has never been that impressive while on a breakaway.

But Lebda...now there's a sniper.

Exactly my thoughts. They play to tie in OT, then just put out Malkin and Crosby for the shootout.

I would have liked to have seen Miller. Williams was a disappointment today, he's usually pretty decent in the shootout. Didn't even try to deke.

I also think that it should be a full 20 minute OT period. No sudden death, just another period and the score after that is the final no matter what.

I think this is a good idea, except it should just be one 10 minute OT period, not 20. They can't be expected to play 1.333 games every 4 games during a season... kinda crazy, no?

I think they're getting plenty of practice. tongue.gif
I make 1 or 2 posts a week tops. Sometimes they're gold, sometimes they're crap, but the end weight is the same.

Lilja ought to encourage more shootouts at the end of practice.

10 minute 4-on-4 would be pretty exciting.

For the record, I think shootouts to break ties are lame and the league should get rid of them. If a weak team makes it to the playoffs with this strategy and they can't score with a defense in front of them, they will choke in multiple OT periods, if they make it that far. It's for the best. If a team misses the playoffs because they can't win in regulation or OT, it's hard to feel sorry for them, even if weaker teams are making it via shootout.

Yea I didn't think about that. I would enjoy a 4 v. 4 for 10 mintues.
